1979 Rx7 Air conditioning

I just got my Rx7 back from being restored. I would like to add air conditioning and I am having a problem finding someone to do it. My question is this, "Was air conditioning even an option for the 1979 Rx7?"

Thank you, Marvin Fishman

Yes, air conditioning was available on all model years of the RX-7! It was installed when the car came to the U.S. It was installed by Mazda at port before the cars were shipped to the dealership. With that being said, you can buy all of the components you need from owners that are parting their car out or stripping the a/c out of the car. Everything you need is all bolt on and plug in.

I'd like to see some shots, inside / outside / under hood or your 79 Limited.

Interesting factoid: US SA's were shipped to the US without air conditioning due to high import tarriffs on air-conditioned cars.

My 79 GS came with A/C, but the fan for inside air would only work when A/C compressor was on. Meaning no fan for 'outside fresh air.'
My favorite local shop upgraded my HVAC controls per later years to include the 'push button' that allows fan for outside fresh air, as well as (by pushing the button) engages the A/C compressor.

nice improvement.

Marvin, If you need, I have a brand new AC Condenser, Receiver Dryer, Hard and Soft AC Lines ... Pretty sure they will work in an 1979 year car. Also have a brand new Oil Cooler (goes under factory radiator) .. Located in Apex, North Carolina

Bruce,

if Marvin is not interested in your AC system components, please let me know. I’m attempting to put together a system for my non-AC ‘79.

Thx!
