soon Wolf V4 owner (i hope) questions about premix

Hello everyone,

Well I was drawn into the standalone world when i talked to Chris at Sevenstock this past weekend. Anyways I've asked quite a few questions and one of them was wether I needed to Premix if i ran the Wolf V4 in my S5. He said that the OMP is injecting dirty crankcase oil and causing carbon. so its better to run clean synthetic oils....

so is there a way to run somesort of pump (i know fabbing a S4 mechanical pump is out of the question) or have the Wolf run the S5 electric OMP? or should I just premix...

well I know that premixing is better for the car and if i chose to get a standalone i wouldn't mind doing that but just trying to explore other alternatives

just seen this site from the 2nd gen

http://ahura.iwarp.com/2strokepump.htm

wonder if that would be an alternative if the Wolf ran the OMP at all....

My FC was the red one with the Wolf stuff where Chris was talking to you. I run premix, the wolf does not control oil metering pumps. You could also consider the rotary aviation metering system with the remote tank that you could put premix into. Ive been running premix for about 4 years, no problems.

i know people say once u do it u won't go back and also how its pretty simple to pre-mix, but was just wondering if there was a lazier way,

anyways Fatty_FC3S how's your car running with the Wolf? I mean i was drawn into the Wolf by Chris' talk of the power/mpg gain/ and blowing out flowers and butterflies out the exhaust =D

just want another opinion of the ECU.

btw, the Rotary Aviation remote tank... it seems like on their site its for a S4 mechanical pump only correct? i can't find anything from anywhere that can substitute for the S5 pump or a remote tank for the S5 electric pump

Ive tuned on Power FC's, S-AFC's, Microtec and Wolf. I like the Wolf and the Power FC's. Microtec works, but it seems rather crude compared to the Wolf software and adjustability.

It took my quite a while to get good at engine management, my car was the first car that chris ever put a wolf on (old 3.1 system, what a POS!). Im happy with the 4.0. Ive spent ALOT of time tuning and adjusting in an attempt to get factory streetablity and behavior from a standalone. By that, i mean:

Starts and runs in any conditions
Idles smooth
Good gas mileage
Smooth streetability
No stinky exhaust (i have a cat on it obviously)

With proper guages/instrumentation and patience, you can get your car to run better than stock. My hybrid turbo makes 5psi at 2300 rpm, car feels "torquier" than a stock FC.

Again, its not a bolt in and go affair, things will take time. Thats with most any engine management. If you have more questions, just let me know.

the s4 pump had a mechanical link to the throttle body, you might be able to adapt something, but i know the s5 one is bigger so your going to need to do some fab work.

I thought about doing the same thing for a while, using a 2 quart cannister, and feeding 2 stroke oil into the motor through the exsisting metering pump. The only thing that made me chose to go pre-mix, is because even after you get your 2 stroke injection setup working correctly, there's no garuantee that one day the pump won't wear out or stop working, or even a oil line will clog or leak, leaving you with an unlubricated motor and there's no lights or buzzers to make you the wiser.

Even on the stock s5 ecu if the voltage readouts weren't correct the motor would kick into limp mode and you'd know something is wrong.

with premixing you know 110% for certain that if your car has gas (it's running) then it has lubrication.

And i use smaller bottles, so i use a half bottle every fill up. no measuring crap

thats true, i was thinking of making bottles (or getting bottles) of the right amount for filling up.... and well, filling up only a gallon or 2 is for when i have no money anyways and i don't plan to be broke ever again =D so i'll fill up my full tank everytime

what about the "coil" problem. i did not hear Chris talk about his at sevenstock, it seemed like the Wolf V4 was a PnP EMS unit... but after searching around, i see something about the trailing coil probelm? anyone ran into that?

ya the trailing coil has a switch in it that will stick under high load, and can trigger the wrong spark plug at the wrong time and could damage the motor in the right circumstances.

I'm using the 4 channel BOSCH ignitor (not the generic replacement) and 4 blaster ss coils, and the ignition works beutifully.

I have the universal wolf and built my wiring harness. The S5 DOES have a Plug and play model availiable, but it wasnt around when i bought my wolf. I have a special bosch ignitor, thats the only thing i changed.

I use the standard S4 omp with good oil. I also have a 4 channel bosch with bosch coils. Works great the only problem with premix is if you use fuel cut on over run, then you have no oil so if you where going down a steep hill. The engine could be junk by the time you get to the bottom. BTW I am going to do the premix pump thing one day but I will have a flow meter to tell me if it is working and a alarm to say it is near empty.
Regards
Michael Smith
P.S. I have a stand alone V4

All the Wolf 3x and 4x cars I have done installs for are running pre-mix.
All of them.

Granted a couple are race cars.. but the street cars are running pre-mix as well. Even the 83 that has a 88 Motor.

I and those I installed all simply buy a quart of 2-stroke oil. I keep it in the cargo bin on the 91. Simply nab it.. Look in your pocket.. Hmmm 3 bucks a gallon.. I have 9 bucks... thats 3 Gallons. Pour in 3 oz of oil.. and pump the gas.

Easy, no-brainer.
