I *would* have met some cool rotary peeps last weekend, but my friend had to go and get married on the same day, and make me the best man so I couldn't get out of it. Last year, I was set to go to SS8, and my then-pregnant girlfriend wasn't feeling so good so I stayed home to take care of her. At least I made SS6 & SS7 and got to stand right next to the 787B when they fired her up. I will definately be at the next SevenStock and hopefully will get to meet all you fine people.

i disagree! although there were a few v-8 rx7s, i dont think they should have been allowed in the show.... if you went to the parking lot across the street, there were about 50 rx7s who didnt get in due to the overload of cars! i think they have dibs on getting in over the v8 guys.. then if there is still room, then they can come in.... but this is a "rotary enthusiest" show... none of us want to see v8s in rx7s! and if you do, then you shouldnt be driving an rx7 go get a Z, or a supra

any twit can drop a V8 into a chassis, that isn't all too difficult but people driving several thousand miles in turboed rotaries getting *** for gas mileage, now that has priority parking in my mind.

An RX-7 is an RX-7 no matter what engine it has. This was the mentallity at all the previous Sevenstocks I've been to. There was quite a few cars that looked like they came out of a junkyard parked amongst the nice cars but nobody complains about those. I'd rather see a nice v8 RX-7 at a car show than see an ugly *** rotary RX-7.

Everyone is proud of their cars no matter what and everyone should be able to show them off no matter what engine is in it or how fugly the car is. The show should still be first come, first served to display your car inside.

I saw some nice ones there too and its a shame that the parking lot was across the street surrounded by bushes. This event is getting too big for Mazda's facilities.

Alot of the cars in that parking lot were there because their owners didnt want to be locked inside until 2pm. I saw plenty of cars ahead of me and behind me drive to the lot because they needed to leave earlier than 2 o'clock when the gates were opened again. I was there early in the morning and barely made it inside the lot. I had to park in the red zone.

V8 RX-7s had nothing to do with people parking on the other lot. The fact is that Mazda doesnt have a huge parking lot to accomodate everyone in front of their Mazda buildings.

man that's stupid... who did you hear this from!?!? No one had time to pop hoods... what the he*& you talking about... and on the ROTARIES ONLY, it's always been that way!!! But there have always been other non-rotaries in the lot!!! Is this your first time?

You tell me who said your RX-7 is not welcome, to anyone?!?! There were several V8 RX-7s in the lot... so what's the deal?!?!? The 510s, MGB, and space-ship all had rotaries in them... so what's the issue. SS is all about the Rotary engine!

What wasn't organized? Who was unfriendly?

Yea, the stupid rent-a-cop got an order from the property manager (above Mazda and even Ford), and started handing out tickets, but he got his butt reemed after. This was bogus, but not really a big deal my man! Sorry you didn't enjoy! You're always welcome to come help out and make things better!

On the cars across the lot, many showed up AFTER the lot was full, and others could only stay for a few hours.... I agree the lot was not big enough. but if we would've stayed at R&D not many would've gone in... what you have to understand is that there was 4 times the # of RX-8s this year... they have always been a small group, but this year, they were easily the most cars there!!!! The lot was overwhelmed!!!

On the who gets in and who doesn't... the show is about pride in your RX, even if your 16 and your RX is POS.... the reason we do the meet like this is because one day, I and others were that young kid with the POS that no one respected!! That's not going to happen at SS!!! On the comment that we were less tolerant this year, that's crap!!! It's always been the same!

Ask some of the V8 guys here I've talked to over the years.... I say your welcome, but others might not be as tolerant!

Yes there were twice as many RX8's this year but overall it was smaller. I think the largest was a few years ago when the Australian and Canadian venders where there (like GuRu racing). I didn't see PineappleRacing, Royal Purple, Endless and small venders like simply nuts, etc. I think the venders should have been on the stage side to and if there was a paddock or garage or whatever where the race cars where like where they started and reved engines last year I didn't find it. I also had a hard time finding the tech session and only made the last 10 min. The food was good but the raffle, well I can't stand when they throw stuff it turns people in to asswipes.

Bern,

I was kicked out by the bald asian guy with the black and yellow vest. I believe his name was Ryan? He specifically told me that NO piston swapped rx7's are allowed PERIOD in the lot, and he told me to park my car in the visitors lot. I then took a lap around the street, and I went back with my windows up, and sneaked in. A friend of mine with a white ls1 fd told me his hood got popped and he was pointed to the visitors lot as well.

Ive always seen piston powered RX-7s at Sevenstock. I think this is my 5th Sevenstock and this is the first one where I've heard people complain about not being let in because of the engine in the car. Maybe I didnt pay attention at the previous events or something.

In that case, next years Sevenstock should include NO PISTON ENGINES ALLOWED in the advertisements so people with piston RX-7s dont get butthurt when they're turned away after they woke up super early, and waited in the big line with everyone else.

People initially freaked out because everyone thought they were real fines being handed out. Everyone that received one, including myself, were mad at first but quickly changed our tone when we realized they were just notices. I personally had a good time as I always do at every Sevenstock. I dont think its fair to turn away people with nice RX-7s just because they have a different engine in them. If piston engines arent allowed, it should be clearly stated in the flyers, website and other promotional material for this event. If it does and I missed it, I apologize for not reading the material thouroughly.

Agreed. Every year the event grows in size and Mazda's properties are not big enough to support the flood of cars coming in. Some people blamed the V8s for taking up space inside which is total BS. Lots of people didnt want to be locked in until 2pm and others just showed up late. Thats why they parked in the other lot, not because the v8s took up all the parking spots. The V8s in the lot were the lucky few who managed to get in.

Exactly. I feel everyone should be able to show off their RX-* equally at this event no matter what condition the car is in or the engine it has. In the end its still a Mazda and everyone is proud of their car.

This year was by far the largest in terms of participants by a long shot, as the HQ parking lot is at least 4 times bigger then at R&D. As far as vendors go, yes there might have been a few less vendors, but there were at least +5 new vendors... Mazsport, Pettit, Axial-Flow Engineering, and a few others. I think SEMA hurt us this year with vendor count, and 8-9 other confirmed vendors just didn't show, which really sucks!... the calendar is always a tough deal.

On the V8 debate, it's always the same crap every year... if we do, peeps complain, if we don't, peeps complain... we can never win. We put a clear "no pistons" policy before, and we were haters... the show is a celebration of all things rotary first and foremost though, and welcomed others... but it looks like we'll have to make a tough choice next year and clear this whole thing up. sigh!!!!

My apologies to the V8 folks who waited in line and then were checked and refused entry into the lot because of the V8 issue. I will speak to Ryan and see what the deal was. There was no set policy stated, as far as I know. But you see even if we did set a policy, people would not respect it, and would try to sneak in.... we still don't win...

On venue layout GoRacer, we handed out programs with maps to the event to help guide people around, and there were several maps posted at the venue along with schedule. There was also the booths and stage where you could get info. On the tech sessions, not many people had trouble finding them, because the first session was bursting at the seams; standing room only. There was no courtyard this year, as all the factory race cars and specialty vehicles were presented in front of the main stage, we really had no room to put vendors there. There was a large open spot to help keep people circulating in front of the stage. Your comments are helpful and we'll try to make even more signage next year to help folks get around easier, but we need folks to look at the hand-outs.

Cheers,

-Bern

I thought the venue layout was great, much better than at the old R&D facility. Using the front lot allowed many more people to have a good veiw of the specialty/race cars, and stage.

Much better job, thanks Bern!

is Mazda HQ the new home of SS? If SS10 is gonna be as big as SS7 (IIRC), that place is not big enough.

Robert, thank you for your compliments on the job our boys/ girls did. We work VERY HARD for this one day show, and everyone busted ***! But even with this tremendous success, I still hear some nagging and complaining, but that's okay. What did JFK say? Come volunteer the Friday of, and show up at 5am like we all did and help make SS better next time!

As to cars coming into the lot, the first guy who showed up in line that Saturday was a White FC, he showed up 5 mins after I got to the venue at 5:05 AM! If you own a cherry clean FD and woke up at 12:30pm and try to get into the lot, the guy who showed up at 6:30am got your spot! I don't care. Let me restate our long standing policy of SS : 1st come, 1st served. Get in line earlier next time! WE DON'T EVEN CHARGE A SINGLE PENNY FROM ANYONE!! ALL THE PROCEEDS FROM RAFFLE TICKETS AND T-SHIRT SALES COVERS THE SHOW AND HELPS SEED NEXT YEARS!!!

Thanks everyone for the positive comments!

I think people always take this event for granted.

Thanks for all your hard work guys. I wasn't able to make it for a full-day event...only an hour at most. But I appreciate everyone that is involved to making this event happen.
