O sure

I don't want the plate right in the middle looks tacky on fc's.

I'M ASKING WHERE IS IT LEGAL TO PUT THE PLATE.

I got a front plate so I don't get stopped, I don't want to put it where its not "legal"

I was thinking of putting it so it faces down, but I dunno if thats legal, can I put it on the bottom of the bumper so its slanted and bend it alil?

Ok. Here are a couple of serious answers:

1. You've got an FC right? You can pick up the front plate mounting kit at the dealer for about 20 bucks. It mounts to a couple of bolts hidden underneath the bumper.

2. Where to mount the plate. If you aren't going to mount it in the stock location (via the mounting bracket) then you are still required (in most states) to mount it to the "front" of the vehicle. As far as I can tell the legal definition of the "front" of the vehicle is technically left to the judge and is not defined by law. I had the pleasure of speaking with a judge who left me with this morsel of logic...

Judge - "Son, if the front of your car were to hit another vehicle, what part of your car would hit that vehicle."

ME - "The bumper, I guess".

Judge - "I guess your right, the bumper is the front of your vehicle so that's where the plate should be mounted".

1) I dont want it in the stock location, looks tacky.

2) I want it in the front, and obviously I'm smart enough to determine the front of a vehicle since I do much more advanced things than placement of a license plate.

3) I'm asking because I don't know what a cop could deem as illegal placement, I thought it was for the stoplight cameras, :AA: says its for the radar guns, so I'm going to mount it where he said.

ty for your at least non idiotic reply, and to the others very mature of you; I don't want to get pulled over n tossed n a county jail for having no license while I'm trying to move out.

Gotcha.. just because your smart enough doesn't mean that other people that will read this thread in the days, weeks, months to come are as well. Some asshats think it's legal to mount it on the windshield. Not only is that theoretically illegal, but potentially fatal as well.

Legally, all vehicles are equipped with a front plate mount location. That's a DOT rules for at least 30 years. So a judge could and in many cases only consider the factory location the legal mounting location. Mounting it off to the side might not be specifically illegal, however your still going to be playing off the judgment of the cops and the judge that was my primary focus.

FWIW - These rules have been in place much longer than the creation of stoplight cameras and yes are probably more specifically related to the user of radar guns (in use since the mid 1950s).

I can't believe this thread is 17 posts long.

Leave it off and pay 25 bucks every time u get a ticket. That's pretty cheap to not have to deal with the following:

1) I dont want it in the stock location, looks tacky.

2) I want it in the front, and obviously I'm smart enough to determine the front of a vehicle since I do much more advanced things than placement of a license plate.

3) I'm asking because I don't know what a cop could deem as illegal placement, I thought it was for the stoplight cameras, :AA: says its for the radar guns, so I'm going to mount it where he said.

I sure as hell wouldn't mind paying 25 dollars if that was the case, in which its not as I'd be going to jail, and this cars technically been a baller for 17 years and never has had a mounted front plate, I just don't want to be pulled over.

My grandmas the original owner she never got a 2nd plate nor mounting brackets for the plate :S! She drove it til 2000, then my dad and nobody has gotten told anything about it. I herd on her its illegal not to have a front plate and people are being ticketed so I was thinking well I gotta move and dont got a license so I may as well get my car legal.

but thanks DKJ I guess since other cars have it to the side thats fine, I was thinking of mounting it to the lower part of the bumper and to part of the grill but that might make it partly not visible, so I'll just go the safe route and mount it visibly on the right side.

I'd never put it on the dash, thats just stupid looking and illegal. I started this thread hoping for some suggestions on places to mount it that don't look too bad, I love my fc without a plate

Get vinyl stickers of letters/numbers of your current plate and plaster them on your bumber!

Wait did you mentioned that you don't have a license? Whoa...your problems maybe more than a front plate ordeal.

as long as the plate is in plan view for the cop to see you're fine...Find a location on the front of the bumper that you like...
