Where to get a rebuild?
So I brought home a white '88 convertible with only 68k (now 70k) on the clock. The whole thing was in such good condition when i looked it over. I couldn't resist it, and threw my cash on the table after only minutes of 'thinking.' I didn't run any 'tests' aside from smashin it around town to make sure. Then I took it home and figured out it has a coolant seal leak! Most likely, anyway. So! I spent four and a half bones on it just to have to get it rebuilt. It makes me laugh, too, because I'd seen a 91 red vert with only 43k! that I now realize, had the same problem. Eh. The black interior on it was immaculate, but red's not my color. I think I prefer the 'plain' look of s4's.
ANYWAY - to get to the point. I'm way too much of a noob to trust myself trying to do it myself. I want a good rebuild - but i'm really clueless on who/what to look out for, and look for. The car fortunately drives just fine, so I can drive it out, but I don't want to go -too- far. I'm located in El Sobrante, by Richmond.
Any suggestions, folks?

Are you kidding me? Sell it? No way dude. The car inside and out is so well kept. The only thing wrong with it is the engine. If it was a bucket I'd be happy to let it go, but no dude.... no... Do you have any idea how hard it was for me to find one taken care of??? This and the red one were the only ones that looked good. EVERY OTHER seven I looked at was either way too modded, over priced for being "fair condition," or falling apart. I hated it.

man.....
Wow my morning frikkin sucked. I got up early for my monday morning drive to work, jumped into my car and saw I was about to turn the clock over to 70 k. Right when it hit 69,999 it crossed my mind that i've put a good 2k on this car knowing it had a cracked coolant seal. Twice, sometimes three times a day i'd double check the coolant level, and it only was ever a small amount low.... then, seriously, right as the clock hit 70,000 steam started comin' out from under my hood. My heart frikkin dropped. I pulled over and popped the hood to see that my radiator busted! Made my morning, I tell ya. I had a VW I was trying to sell to make up the funds for the rebuild... and now a damned radiator. I was a fool to get this car knowing I'd have no money in my pocket. But dammit, it was a fun car to drive. And no one wants to buy my damn VW.
I'm pennyless, and sevenless. I'm bummed.
You got a quarter? My kids are hungry. I need some crack to feed my kids. Spare a quarter? Anyone? Spare some change? I need some crack. My kids are hungry.

NorCal 7's Co-founder
Karack is the person I would recommend. He is one of the best engine builders in NorCal. He does have a waiting list right now, but it's worth the wait if you ask me.
If you don't have the time to wait then contact Chris Green at Wolf USA. He is also an excellent engine builder. I'm not exactly sure if he has a waiting list right now or not.
I would stay away from Rick's Rotary though. I've heard several negative comments about engines that have come out of that shop. Just my .02. Just PM me if you need any further info, I'll be more than happy to help you out bro.
