I do not mean to fuel fire or debate but I would like to set some facts straight about SPD and Pure Sports.

SPD originated from a shop in UTAH that wanted to expand into the West Coast. They sought out Pure Sports for its highly regarded word of mouth customer base. They combined to form a business venture, but SPD and Pure Sports still kept independent from each other in business practices. They formed a bond, shared the same address and location on the West Coast, they were still separate businesses. At the time of course, it seemed like a great idea, but SPD made many mistakes with the parts sales and marketing that eventually put them into bankruptsy and dragged the name of Pure Sports along with it. It was a bad idea and a bad business choice for Pure Sports. SPD is gone along with the people that ran that side of the business here in the west coast. I don't know about the roots of the company, but I haven't heard of anything in the past 3 years. Pure Sports still stayed in business.

It's very easy to put blame on assumptions. Sure there were complaints on the BBB and easy to link SPD's name with Pure Sports. It's documented on paper. But, what do you know of the happenings within? It's impossible to know unless you have direct experience with the people and transactions involved. SPD's side of the business was solely parts sales. Pure Sports is a tuner/repair shop. Barely anyone but people with realtions with these two companies know what went wrong. The BBB complaint was manifested by the bad business principles of the parts sales with SPD. Pure Sports did not touch any part of that business.

"Seeing how the way they do business" comes from reading posts online and hearing 2nd hand and 3rd hand stories, and "SPD and Pure Sports is one and the same" because a piece of paper says so, then I am sorry to tell you, you have a slight misconception of the whole picture. I am not knocking anyone down, I understand where the assumptions come from and how all the bad mouthing started. That's one of the reasons why I am posting to clear some air.

If you had direct bad experience with Seth at Pure Sports in the past then your arguments may well be correct and warranted. No one can satisfy everyone. It's a fact and I accept it.

Seth is the owner of the shop Pure Sports and a long time tuner. He is a one man shop. I have only heard of good things about him and the shop before I had met him. I have heard of some complaints, but they were from newbs who don't know about tuning or the tuner industry. His skills are excellent from basic mechanic work to fabrication. He owned the best tools and knew how to use all of them well. He has excellent background with all car repair with great experience tunging and racing. His business is almost soley by word of mouth, return customers, and referrals. That should explain why there were so many RX7 customers at his shop and why people come back.

I will probably sound biased to some because he is actually a good friend of mine, but the whole friendship stemmed from my understanding of his workmanship and desire to satisfy customers. I did have a business relationship a while before we had become friends. I knew people from SPD as well. I have seen and experienced from both SPD and Seth and had them both as customers separately at my old job in the performance aftermarket industry. As much as I would love to tell you all the negatives and horrible business ventures of SPD, I will refrain. The point is that they and Seth should not be intertwined.

So I hope I cleared some misconceptions and kept as unbiased as possible on the facts about the shop.

My condolences to the owners of the cars that were involved. Like you all, I have lost my car as well in the blaze. My FC was the red one if you were ever by the shop in the past 2 months. I guess I can consider myself lucky if I can even get 1% of only the parts that I have put into my car. 9 years into the build and gone in an instant.

I place no blame on Seth or anyone else for what happened because it truly was a trajedy without forewarning. If there was blame, it is put on myself for not picking up my car earlier. I am glad no one was physically hurt or killed with the fire.

Seth, I am truly sorry for your loss. When the dust settles, I hope that you will be able to start up again. Please let me know if you need any help.

I apologize for the long *** post.

As for those who would try and get their money refunded by their insurance, using bluebook isnt really the best way to go. Auto insurance companies would pay back a greater amount if you found an ad for a similar car with similar modded parts being sold for a price higher than the blue book. I hope this helps. Ive been told this by my girlfriend and her mother who both work for allstate. Sorry to hear about the event.

HKS FC3S.... My condolences. I'm glad i also pointed out that there is no need for mud slinging in this tragic situation. there go 16 FD's and FC's among the other plethora of beautiful, loved machines. And one man's business. we gotta have a meet in their respect.

By the way, Sett is 6'2" and a healthy 350. I was just putting a feeler out to see if anyone one dissing him has actually met him. Ironically, he really doestn't fit in an fd physically. As big as he is, his heart is bigger.

From what I understand, you will need proof that you had these modifications done to your vehicle (i.e. receipts) in order for your insurance company to reimburse you. I would get with your bank (if you used a card transaction) and/or the companies you bought/installed your aftermarket parts from and try to get a copy of your transaction. Sorry to hear about everyone's loss, including Seth. I'm sure it must be difficult to have your life's work go up in flames.

Hey HKS FC3, I saw your car months ago when I dropped of my car from utah. The best looking build fc I have ever seen. I loved the wheels. I was responsible for the connection between SPD and Seth (I'm from utah, I new SPD/Performance R & D in salt lake city, and new seth, They met through me). I advised seth strongly to consider sharing his bussiness or bussiness space with him, or his bussiness. I am still friends with both parties. I can vouch 100% for what HKS FC3 said, and I have never me him. The wholesale bussiness is rough and cut throaght and is strung with high overhead and low margins. Its amazing anyone survives doing it. I think the fact that the people who lost their cars in this tradegy are coming forward and protecting seth and his reputation speaks volumes. If you notice, I don't post much, but am doing so that people really know seth and the kind of guy he is and his shop was (and hopefully will be). I've said enough, I need to get my receipts together.

Can anyone give us an update on how Seth is doing, and what his plans are? Does he have any intention of getting the business up and running again?

I've been dealing with Seth since late last year and he has done absolute wonders for my car. A great guy to work with, very friendly, and straight as an arrow. I refused to buy an FD until I knew I had someone that could work on the car, and when I found Seth (through this board) I went ahead and bought. I will seriously consider moving away from the FD if he's not around to work on it.

^^ Well I appologize for quoting it.. but its all true. James I feel really bad for the loss of your FC.. I personally don't like FC's but yours was beautiful. I too lost my car in the fire. But compaired to my room-mate Meiogirl and all the others in the shop and seth, my loss is nothing. So many cars, so much history and the last gatorade car. =/

I've put a lot of time into that shop and it's going to be weird not having it around while it's being rebuilt.

Why did you change your name? Everybody still remembers when Waysho was treated horribly and had racial insults thrown at her while at Fleet Color.
