Tragic News, jhammons01 to buy a Vette

Sorry guys, the obsession has moved on. I am fininshing up that last bits and pieces for the Rex restoration and then it's for sale.

The V8 Hillbilly thread in the lounge got to me..........

I like that Rotary Motor in my car......it's just the Previa Vans beating me at every red light thats killing me.

I'll post a for sale thread soon.

If you'd shed some of those 350lbs., your car would be like 3 seconds faster in the 1/4.

Hell no, If I had any real money I'd buy Sellinga7s V8 Vert. I have about $3000 to spend now and when I sell the 7 a bit more. That kinda of money only buys '84-'90s with 100K on the odometer.

I could finance a newer one but this is just a 2nd car for messing around with so I can't justify borrowing money for it. The money I spend on cars is just the "fun" money I can earn doing side jobs.

I love the curves. Being serious, That RX7 is an incredible handling machine. I have never had a car handle so well. I have been in pure agony over the power issue. You start modding it and then you can't smog it. Then you mod it anyway and you start blowing things........

TII Swaps were considered

Supercharger add ons were almost purchased ala Trainwreck

Buick GN V6 swaps were considered

LT1 swaps were considered.

Mustang Motor swaps were considered.

Everything added up to.....Lotsa money and lotsa hours. Then I would have a great car...great handling and great running. Understand that if you are going to do a V8 swap the Automatic tranny mounts or much better for the new tranny.......

But alas, I can do engine rebuilds.....take out the old bad stuff and put in new good stuff........but I can't fabricate anything. I don't have a shop....just a garage with more that average tool set. So, If I wanted to swap anything and a situation arose where I had to do some fabrications.......It would be a nightmare. If is was on the chassis I would have to rent a trailer, then get the motorless chassis on the trailer and then take it to a shop that would charge 4 times the price it should be.........I'm out.

A Vette Swap is as expensive but can be done in about three hours. The only toll needed is a bunch of little green pieces of paper and a pen to sign buyers contracts.

All that being said I am in real agony with parting with the 7. Me and my boys rebuilt that thing right here in my garage and it was great. I hate to see it go....but I guess we can build on another car just the same.

If you feel that is what you have to do then best of luck. But I would think about it some more. It's hard to get rid of something that you have put so much hard work into.

Well, if your going to do it. Stay away from the 84 because it is a T/body setup. 85 is ok but the computer cannot handle high Hp even with a Chip. 86 and on up is the ticket. Stay away from the 4 speed with overdrive, problem child.
This is from experience. I have owned and modified all of those 3 years. You will however like the handling of the vette, it is very road responsive and a blast to drive. If you want reommendations for mods just pm me when you get one.

Tell me more about this T/body setup in the '84.

And I heard about the 3x4 tranny but not much.
