Targa Top

Okay so i just spent an hour looking for some info on how to do the targa top and what would it cost...any info or help would be appreciated! do you think it would be worth it to see a targa top on an FC, or has someone already done this? if so please include pictures for referrences.
Thanks,
-Smurf-

static, would it still be alright if i brace the roof will a roll bar or why do you think nit is not good? i would really aprreciate your input considering you have had this done! i Also want to know how you can do this and still keep the original roof locked together for "rainy days" in cali...where did you get yours done?
thanks,

While it does look good, the car becomes garbage as far as chassis rigidity is concerned. So you have to ask yourself if you are willing to own an FC that will no longer act or feel like an FC should just so you can have a targa top like the Supra boys.

i just like the way those doors look...dont know why but that doors plus that vent make me think....more than you can afford....FERARRI...vroom vroom...seriously though i've been tempted to weld my windowframe to the roof and cut my door like that just cuz it looks wickid and would affect rigidity or anything

in addition you could make that door vent functional and duct it to cool your rear brakes

theere is something called subframe in the way there buddy . . .

This car is nowhere near professionall, its very haggard, it flexes alot, i have a roll bar, doesnt help . . .
and for they guy asking about caging the car and having the targa top, uh doesnt that defeat the idea of having a full open top?
Seriously take my word for it as an owner of this strange creature, even if it was done right, the vert still owns.
I'm building a hardtop 7 on the side, you dont truely appreciate pushing a button on a sunroof until you deal with what i have to.
so who wants to buy it?

I would say the best place to start from would be with a vert where you'll start with a chassis designed not to have a b pillar supporting structure. Add your targa but then as mentioned before the vert can go targa anyway

The vert doesn't "go" targa: it has either a retractable top, or you can simply remove the targa panel from the top. Although, I have to say that it is VERY windy and noisy inside the car with only the targa top removed (the built-in wind deflector inside the car does not help in this case), so I wonder if this happens in a non-vert too. I almost never just remove the targa itself; there's no point when you've got a vert!

I would really think seriously about that structural integrity issue before I cut into my FC.

well in any rx7 the wind noise is pretty bad with just the windows down the top doesnt make much difference, with the windows up and the top off though its quite nice, gentile breeze inside, nothing major, since the car is already chopped, once i get my other FC road worthy then this car will be re-built correctly, with proper bracing for being topless, the chassis will be stiff as hell, and the cage is going to be nice too you wont see it from outside the car.

lies!! you could make it work somehow...with evil voodoo magic or something...it'd prolly add an assload of weight but whatever all that ducting and flex hose goin frome your door to some random hole in your fenderwell would look futuristic...you could tell people its part of the flux capacator and just make a Y out of neon lights. it'd be rad

your crazy man, go buy a honda ^_^ not but seriously, the car is getting toned down and stiffened up. Overall just done right with parts from verts and other sport top cars.
This is what i have rough sketched in my ehad so far:
Vert Doors
Vert Windsheild Frame
Lightweight carbonfiber or fiberglass roof
Latches from an S2000 (light, functional and clean looking)
I'm going to extend the roll bar down along the side of the seats and long the sill area, possibly tying into the firewall and front subframe mount area. Custom fiberglass bay behind seats to hold roof when its removed, will hold roof down, in case of an accident/ roll over etc.
Doing all this is going to add weight to the car so power steering will probably be gutted (its going out anyways)
It'd be neat to have carbon or fiberglass doors made . . . yeah right . . . someday
