Depends on where you parked; some cities like Brea have blanket regulations about overnight parking on residential streets that apply to the entire city, and are only posted at the city limits.

Other cities issue residents parking permits, and ticket any non-residents.

You'd still probably have to pay a $25 contest fee

Seriously. when I parked my FC on a corner with no registration they gave me a 25$ ticket AND a week to move it instead of towing or crushing it. I'm happy they let me off with such a break

Cerritos has the same thing, except it's $12. It's pretty lame, but my time is seriously worth more than $12 (or $25 in your case). Dig deep, and move on.

$25!?!? You got off lightly!!! We get at least a £30/$60 fine for any kind of parking misdemeanour, and if we are parked as you described, it usually gets clamped and towes first thing in the morning! So that's £60/$120 clamp removal fee at least! Then £200/$400 release fee from the pound and £80/$160 per night storage fee!!!

Consider yourself lucky!

City regulations.

Just pay the $25. You broke the rule, and they caught you.

That is the dumbest rule I have ever heard of. How the hell do they expect people to live if you can't park your car in front of your own damn house?

ever since i had my car impounded i have met alot of people who seem to know alot about fighting tickets through written declaration. it states right on the back of your ticket how to do it. usually the cops never actually go through with writing their part so it just gets dropped. visit ticketassassin.com they gave me some good advice, maybe they can help you.

Those that know me know I'm the first to encourage fighting the man.

BUT, in this case just pay the $25. it's a no point ticket, and you'll probably spend more that $25 in gas running around dealing with it. I always tell my kids it's better to be smart than be right. So be smart, cut your loss's, and just mail in the $25. Don't think of the $25 as a bull **** reach into your pocket by da man. Think if it as paying tuition for a bit of education.

^Agreed. That, and it's not that people who live there can't park on the street. It's that you need a permit (that you must request from the sheriff's department) to be able to park overnight. I guess this deters the city residents from having dormant cars parked on the street.

Someones gotta pay to keep the streets cleaned. It's usually the smaller cities that pull that "No Parking between X and X" BS. It's an easy way to keep the riffraff out.

Have you ever lived in LA? I never could park in front my apartment, usually 3 streets away. When I did live in a house (Pasadena) there was a fee to have street parking overnight. That is just Los Angeles.

I would say take the ticket as bad luck and be happy it wasn't so bad, not worth fighting.

How about this. If you park your car on a public street and have no front license plate but good in every other way otherwise, expect to find a no-front-licence-plate ticket on your windshield waiting for you when you return. I kid you not.

I heard Claremont's overnight parking citations are ridiculously high. Like $60 or something if I remember right.

That poor guy from the UK, that sucks!!!

YUP!

Chiming in here as I live in So Pasadena...same thing. NO OVERNIGHT parking. I have to agree with everyone out there. Your GF should of told you to get an overnight permit.

Specifically in So Pas, it is $25 too I think...but an overnight pass is $2 and can be purchased anytime at city hall. Residents can buy a yearly pass for like $90. As a resident I kinda like the rule. Just like they said above it def keeps the "riff raff" out, and keeps the streets neater and kinda safer as you know which cars "belong" out there. You live here long enough you know which cars are resident cars...so if you ever see a suspicious car there you would know right away. When I first bought my 1st gen, I had to park on the street so I just bought that damn pass.

Just pay the $25 and move on...

This is why Norcal > Socal

I've parked my car plenty of times and seen cops pass by, never had a cop want a plate on it

The front plate thing isn't a Nor Cal/So Cal thing. More a Los Angeles vs. the rest of California thing.

correction: there is no parking restriction within the city of LA. neighboring small cities, yes. In fact, we dont have street cleaning in my neighborhood which is fucked up but its a good excuse to drink beer early Saturday morning
