Spotted: Mobile smog machine on 15-91 interchange
I was on my back from In-N-Out (which I'm eating right now) and while I was going back on to the 91fwy, I saw a big orange sign that said "Mobile smog device ahead", I was just thinking "ok..." So anyways, the device was set to about the height of an average exhaust system for a car, and it was hooked up to an unmanned Chevy van, and here's the good part: there was a camera setup a few feet before the smog device, so I'm guessing it reads your emissions, and if they're too high, it snaps a pic and you get sent to the ref! Pretty crazy, huh?
uh..Thats done by the STATE BAR. One of my customers at my previous work is one of those guys that travel up and down the state and do random inspections. They take your VIN even if you deny the "voluntary Smog Test". He says the state are going for the smog stations that the offending cars "passed" at. They will find the culprit smog stations and send undercover cars to stake out the station.

That's the thing, it's not a matter of wanting or not wanting to do it, you are FORCED. It's a "drive-by" machine/camera setup, it's pointed RIGHT where you pass, there is no way around it.

That's what I would do If I were driving my FC by it.
It's right towards the end of the one-lane interchange with no real place to go. If you go to the right, you'd cross through the path of the utility van with all the wires going to the smog machine, the other side is just a small drop-off that you wouldn't want to risk unless you were in some type of off-road vehicle.
That's what I would do If I were driving my FC by it.
*possibly* but I'd rather just turn it off and then turn it back so I'll know I didn't get "tested" unless you have a rotary that just leaves a trail of stink even after it's turned off

HAHAH what if they review it and point you out for being too clean, they know rotaries are gross polluters

how accurate can a machine be just sitting on the side of the road, the real smog they shove a tube up your cars tube (lol) and they run the damn thing at like 30 mph in first gear so the damn RPMS are so high, at least thats what they did to mine, well they do all that for like 5 to 10 min, so a drive by machine on the side of the road sucking mostly fresh air from outside wouldn't seem to me that it would read ****, especially if you pass it at about 25 mph, the air coming off your car would create a force of air that would blow any **** right past the meter..
I'll bet that they guy was just out to get some donuts and just wasn't there to stop anyone at that point you passed his van
