Exclamation South L.A. Area Roadside Emission Readers!!

Just a heads up to you guys. There looks to be a roadside emissions reader on the 110 North bound just North of the 105 around the Manchester exit. I didnt see any obvious cameras or increased patrols in the area, just a trailer with a few pipes and wires coming out of it. I saw it yesterday but my girlfriend confirmed it has been there since monday. Just a heads up.

Usually they're on ON/Off ramps, as they need a sec of time to read your cat temp / measure emissions with an IR or some such beam.... I don't know if you can accurately do that @ 60MPH, not calling BS, or anything, since thechnology marches on and on... but that's been the norm so far...

Proof of technology marching on.... Beer Robot ! Need I Say More ?

they just send you a "nasty-gram" saying

"dear registered vehicle owner,
your car has been spotted at (fill in random location here) at (fill in random time of day) and has shown, by our test station, higher than normal harmful emissions. please have your car repaired for the better of atmospheric quality in california....blah blah blah"

never seen one in person, but at least 5 people said something along those lines

My friend told me that the way things are going on with cars now a days; with the hybrid engines and cars running on pure ethanol, that smog exempt law is going to go bye-bye. By that time you'd have to have a special permit to drive those old school cars or something.

As far as the emissions testers, I saw one on the ramp from the 5 North going to the 55 South. It was there during rush hour, but they took it out last time I checked. There was no ramp for vehicles to pull up on, it just looked like a laser on a tripod, kind of like the radar detectors that the police use.

Just to udate. I drove there yesterday night and it was no where to be found. It seemed mobile. I will be driving there today in a couple of hours and I will update you guys again. Just to specify it was just north of the 105 to 110 off ramp. I will keep a look out.

i spotted this emission reader too. i was going to post it up on the forums but u beat me too it. yea the emissions reader is right on the on-ramp after the 110 and 105 emerge. i've seen it twice since i've been driving on the 110 alot these days for work. does turning off your engine really work? cuz if it does i'm probably have to remind myself to do that when i come across one.
