Question For SoCal tuner, how much $ do i need?

I have a 93 FD3S with 99 spec twins,Power FC,HKS FrontMont IC,Defi,AVC-R...etc

wanna have cleaner engine bay...><

I want to rebuilt the eninge with 3mm seals and a GT35R single turbo kit.

How much $ will it be?(include tuning and everthing )

I am looking for 400hp on the wheel.

I got a price from "a shop"....$8,000

Is that a fair price?

thanks

Depends if your engine is blown or not.

You don't need 3mm apex seals. Stock seals work just fine. 3mm apex seals at high RPM for long periods of time will cause chatter marks.

3k-5k rebuild (depends on how much needs to be replaced plus if you want some porting), 2k turbo, tuning 500-1k

its a good price but what place are you thinking about taking it?

that type of price sounds like a tripoint quote but i know tripoint doesnt tune the pfc, they use motec, so im thinking thats xs.... i would be wary of xs as they have had many complaints about their tuning

if it is tripoint know one thing they are pricey but they are very profesional and will do things right, heck they've been racing mazdas since the 70's. the only real complaints about tripoint i have heard is that they can get pricey but you get professionalism and decades of experience

GT35r doesn't cost $2000. I've seen them for $1200 new, unless you are getting the ball bearing one.
$8K sounds about right for they type of horsepower #s you want to see. There are alot of parts you are overlooking when doing a gt35r swap.

Injectors, fuel pump, maifold, wastegate, aftermarket BOV, turbo feed lines, downpipe flange, custom downpipe, and the list goes on...

Uhh. ok. Every car on that list doesn't even break 5 seconds 0-60. Those cars are not fast. A GT35r BB goes for ~$1800 new.

Remember the smogging problems you are going to have to deal with having a single turbo. I am pretty sure a majority of FD owners have to smog their car every year since they are labeled as being gross poluters.

Something to think about when wanting to go to that extreme. Not to mention if you get pulled over. A cop will notice a single turbo FD but might not bat an eye at BNR upgraded twins.

I agree with fuman....the smog cops are getting tougher every year!!!! Unless you just want to buy your way around it, and that isnt cheap if you can even find a hookup. If you have a parts and a goal, call around and ask what the going rate will be, and what it will include.

thanks for everyone's reply...and yes...i wanna the BB GT35R. I have no problem with Smog check(most of my cars are catless...)

My engine is still running good....but i would prefer to rebuilt the engine if i am going for singal set up.

by the way, i don't really care about 0-60..... I am not into 1/4 miles,too... I like grip and drift....

thanks again....

here's some pics...i will post it again after GT35R installed.
