smoggers rules

so ive never smogged a car before in my life, im looking up things currently about smogging a car. so my friend just met his neighbor who owns a lil shop and i jus found out that he smogs cars there. so i ask my friend to ask his neighbor to see if he could smog my car( that is, if it doesnt pass jus pass it anyways). my friend gets back to me today and he told me that his mom told him that the neighbor cant pass do it illegally because supposedly the smog machines' data goes directly to the dmv...

so im like wtf. i never knew this and i dont know if his neighbor is bsing him or who is bsing who... i mean maybe his neighbor doesnt want to help me out or something.

so does anyone know if its impossible to do it illegally.. or if the smog testing machines report the data to the dmv to prevent illegal smogging???

well thanks.

Have you tried to smog it before?

Some places will do a pre-smog check- Just cost more money.
If your vehicle doesn't pass the smog test it could be known as a gross polluter and have to be smogged more often. Kinda sucks.

Def take it to small joe's shop Not a big outfit.

Yes when they smog a car it goes directly to the DMV. At least here in LV it does.

Your friends neighbor doesn't want the word out that he does or will do illegal smogs. He gets it all the time.

Try calling around and see what the shops will do in your area. Ask them the same questions like "what if my car doesn't pass" or "what if it really doesnt come close to passing". The guy should level with you. Make sure your car is running well before the smog. Just to be safe change the oil and put in new plugs and wires if you haven't already. Also tach that thing out if you can. Do you hear any vacum leaks near the smog eqp?

Small joe's is if it's the only one in the world. So---Midas=big boys Joe blows shop = small guy ----get it?

To do it illegaly you have to put your V.I.N. in there computer and hook a car that will pass smog. Unless you no someone well enough they aren't going to want to do it and risk getting in trouble.

yes the computer automatically sends it to the dmv. there is no way around it.

so let me guess you removed your airpump? and probably the cats and put in a downpipe? and now you need to smog it. sorry you'll need to reinstall whatever you removed.

next time you wanna do something illegal i would recommend not announcing it on the internet,

For cars like ours, you should be able to put ANY car on the rollers and smog it, since we're pre-OBD, there's no diagnostic port for the computer to hook upto to verify the car is what the tech says it is on the computer, no?

No, your neighbor will not do illegal smogs. What I said is he doesn't want people to think he does.

You can do a presmog to see if it will pass smog! Just more money

Last time I smogged was fairly easy. I ended up not passing. Reason was the gas cap. So I bought a new one and brought it back. $50 for everything. Lucky me I only have to smog to transfer ownership. None of that bullshit every 2 years.

Is there any reason to think you will not pass smog?

Tach out= Rev your engine to 7,000rpm.

Again get an oil change, plugs, and wires. If you 7 is running good and all smog stuff is intact it will pass. Or they will tell you why it won't.

as far as everything else, everything seems stock.

i changed the spark plugs about 6 months ago, along with the belts, coolant flush.

Yeah, when smog hits NY, you're gonna have to change your name to "LimitedFC3S"

This is actually not true. You have to use another rx7 on the machine when inputing your VIN. RX7s have different rpm settings in the computer, and a piston motor just wont do it. I used a 85 gsl to get my 90 to pass. lol

for less than $1,000, do you really think that a CA certified/licensed smog tech will risk fine and jail time not to mention loosing his license?

This is one of the reasons why I dont deal with 76+ cars. Its a hazzle.

You probably shouldn't own an unsmoggable car if you post threads asking for hook-ups.

Looks like a stock exhaust with a swapped out cat. You should be able to pass, ain't nothing left to do other than just get it to a test station.
