you can get away with a down pipe in most cases the tech wont know what it is. But you will need the following...... air pump, egr valve, acv, hf or stock cat , stock air box, and maybe the stock ecu to work the air pump to 3000 rpm the pfc will turn off the pump to early so if you have the pfc you will need to tune for smog and get the cell light to work on start up. Gotta love California smog!

If you have a stock cat and your car is running properly you should pass. However, you may fail visual because of the IC and intake (even though arguably they should be CARB-legal). I would swap in a stock IC and intake for the test to be safe.
any idea if i would have problems with an M2 aluminum (copy) painted black? it doesnt have any big cone filter sticking out anywhere like most aftermarket kits seem to and isnt too obvious.

Depends on the smog technician. Some are in a hurry and just want to get you out of there; others are ****.
