The event looks like it went great. I missed it this year but hopefully next year's date won't be conflicting for me.

A random thought...The indoor display was in the same building I took my board of engineers exam. But that 8 hour experience was far different.

 

Seemed almost big enough fill two buildings... maybe next time, a -7 building, and an -8 building?

Two buildings and the courtyard areas around them would hold a LOT of cars. But you'd need people to be willing to pre-register to know if you could fill it, as you'd have to pay for it either way.

Pre-registration might be a cure for a lot of the complexity issues, in fact... and it might actually allow the club to develop a mailing list, and even be able to announce who actually wins their divisions.

Glenn, as difficult as it was to fill up Hall 7 with 100 cars (less actually), we'd have to have a guarantee that we can fill Hall 8 with another 100 cars @ the same rate, and we'd still not fully offset the cost of renting the 2nd hall. If only the Fairplex had better pricing or a larger usable outdoor area that isn't a parking lot.

Point taken, Jeff - I don't have any info on costs, so I'm just kind of theorizing out loud. Very hard to plan when your costs are fixed & have to be contracted up-front, but your demand is unknown until after you commit.

Pre-registration might help with that, if people would actually do it. They'd be paying up-front for a guaranteed space. No uncertainty about being 'early enough to get in.'

It seems to work for other car shows, but it's true the Sevenstock crowd is noticeably different from your typical show-car crowd - - more spontaneous.

The fact that a lot more people came but couldn't get their cars inside says that the event had "uncaptured demand;" each car that had to park in the walk-in lot but wanted to park in the event was $15-$25 you didn't get ($20 for show parking or $30 for inside, minus $5 included attendance fee) and $9 that went to the Fairplex parking people instead of to the club. Trying to put a number to that uncaptured demand will tell you if a 2nd building could be profitably filled or not.

My gut feeling is that you would have had an even larger crowd if the event specifics hadn't had to be delayed (not you guys' fault, we know), so people could plan earlier.

You guys did a stellar job - I'm for sure not criticizing. Just trying to think of ways to make it easier/better for you next year.

yes that was me! i still have not had the time to see what happened under the bumper. i will blame that on the a pillar and it being 5:30 in the morning.
