Just to give you guys an heads-up. CHP has initiated a new program to crack-down on the illegal canyon runs. Double enforcement in certain areas on the weekends. Just to let you know. If I find the link, I will post it.
If you don't speed, don't worry about it. But I imagine with all the ego out there, that is not the case.

CHP Unveils Traffic-Safety Program Targeting Illegal Street Racing
Authorities Thursday unveiled a traffic-safety program for the Santa Monica Mountains designed to target the problems of illegal street racing and other unsafe driving practices in the area near Malibu.
Dubbed "Operation Safe Canyons," the enforcement effort will be conducted by teams of California Highway Patrol officers and Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies, said CHP Officer Leland Tang.
"On weekends, there is an increase of recreational vehicles, motorcycles, high-performance vehicles and bicyclists using these roadways," Tang said. "This increase in vehicular traffic creates a higher than normal demand for service calls and enforcement."
Tang said that the area's mountainous canyon roads "provide an environment for some motorists to engage in high-speed racing and other unsafe driving practices."
He said an increasing problem has been the organization of illegal events by use of the Internet.
Among the problems in the area:

Motorcycles and other vehicles being driven recklessly on Mulholland Highway, past the residential community west of Decker Canyon.

Motorcycles and other vehicles racing on Stunt Road.

High-performance vehicles racing into the early hours of the mornings on Stunt Road and neighboring canyon roads.

Motorcycles and other vehicles traveling in the wrong direction on Tuna Canyon Road while driving in a reckless manner.

And various instances of motorists driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
"Our goal is to create and maintain an environment that promotes a safe and enjoyable use of the Santa Monica Mountains region for all," Tang said.
Also involved in the program will be Assembly Member Fran Pavley's office, Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky's office, the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.

You a-holes. Thanks for screwing up my daily drive route. If people didn't wreck their cars so much there wouldn't be a problem.

I have a long list of accidents I've seen in the past year. Just keep it safe and use your brain. These canyons are not Buttonwillow.
What the cops like to do is one hide at the bottom and one hide up top. Radio is faster than a car.
Reccomendation is, just don't drive the canyons right now. It's hot, and you will get a ticket if your car looks "not-stock".

Thanks for the looking out. I'm hoping all goes well. The last 2 years we crusied the canyons we were pretty chill. We always reiterate that this is not a canyon run but a sprited cruise if you will. About the egos, we check that at the meeting point. The rotaries are more than welcome to cruise with us.

I'm not trying to be an *** about it. I'm not trying to point fingers at anyone, except for the dipshits that drive flat out wreckless.
I drive it everyday and I don't get tickets. Why? Because I don't drive like a dipshit. Yes I get hot in the canyon, but not at 5PM peak traffic hour. 2AM = get the f*%k out of my way. We all do it. Just use the coconut and not your *********!

ReZ, I know all too well what you're talking about... like I told you when I saw you up there.. I've been driving up there for a little over three years now I guess, on and off, and I STILL don't double lane in places where I can't be certain there's no cars... which actually IS NOT HARD at night, even if you're pushing fairly hard.
And also the time thing! Man, I would go up there at 1-2am on a weekend wondering where the hell everyone was... then came at 10 one night to just chill, thinking no one goes up there anymore, and everyone is rip roaring around with their brand new mommy's evo... WTF? 10pm is coming home from work territory ********... lots of people use that road for daily commute between Malibu and Canoga. *sigh*
I hear a big part of the problem is bikers too... little crotchrocket **** can't run at night 'cause they're pansies so they do it all day Saturday, which annoys the **** out of the residents.
Hopefully the cops catch all the morons and leave the responsible people alone... but it probably won't happen that way, so I'll be playing it safe.
Anyway... about the thread, I have couple friends with MR2s so I was actually invited a few weeks ago and I said maybe... so if any of you guys want to meet up with me I'd be happy to cruise with ya... but unlike our last outting through Angeles Crest I think this one is really going to be a CRUISE... I'll let the AW11 supercharged and SW20 egos get the tickets while I blind the cops behind me with my exhaust putting around. ;D
(btw ReZ... looks like it'll be quite a while before we can meet up for a little run through stunt... but I think I can give you two a good go, I'd like to try a set of follow-me's... dunno if my car can keep up on crappy tires but it'd be fun)
