Question San Diego area shops

I am considering buying an FD site unseen from San Diego. I'm trying to find a specialist shop in the area that will do an independent inspection for me, and I'm not having much luck. I used the search, but it mostly just told me who not to go with.

I don't want to take my car to JMC after reading this, since Seth is their rotary man. Can anyone else recommend otherwise?

Somebody else suggested JDM concepts, but then there was a complaint about them in the Fudrucker's meetup thread. I found another one too, but I lost the thread.

I read about Lucky 7 racing, but haven't heard any reviews good or bad about them. Are they still in business?

Has anyone gone to Dan at econo-lube? Econo-lube worries me, but if he's the man then he's the man.

Speedmachine has a website, but I read in a thread that their shop is out of business.

This thread is old, but it has a recent post maintaing nothing has changed. So is Autotech still to be avoided?

Can anyone recommend another shop in the area that would be able to do an inspection? Any help or advice is appreciated.

Take it by either Rotory Reliability or Lucky 7. Good shops either one. Tho, they're more towards L.A./O.C./and El Monte

Rotary Inspection

Take your car to Mission Village Auto Care on Mission Gorge Rd. in San Diego. Ask for Matt, he is a rotary mechanic and has a complete understanding of rotary engines. He did a total restoration on my 93 rex and it continues to run great!
There phone number is (619) 280-2354 Good Luck!

I'll second Westcott Mazda and Fidel Ruiz. I have an 88 GTU and Fidel has been working on it for at least 10 years. Prior to Westcott, I bounced around to more convenient places, but settled on them. It's about a 20 mile trek from where I live, but well worth it. Fidel knows his stuff.

I have had the opportunity to talk to Fidel on many occasions and stand in the shop, flipping through the shop manual, discussing with him what could or should to be done. We've been able to work together to keep my car runnig well. Even through all the track miles I have on her. In fact, I will probably be seeing him next week.

Later,
John
