I need some help.

This is my 2nd RX7 [both 2nd Gen] to have some mysterious problem so that it won't start.

I'm tired of having my car hauled to my mechanic for him to charge me $40 to tell me there's $90 worth of problems to my car.

I need someone who know's something about rotary engines specifcally to give me a better Idea than 500 "probably's".

The car has been in my driveway since Saturday early morning, roughly 4am.
Come monday afternoon about noon, my car isn't starting.

When I turn the key, I can hear the starting doing what it's name tells it too, but that's it. I don't hear the engine turn over, i don't hear it fire, I don't hear anything. Just the starter in this constant high whine.

If the starting sound of a car is that cranking sound.. like

whirwhirwhirwhir*start*

mine is just going whiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrr.... etc.

Message me with suggestions, and we'll take it from there.

check the fuses in the engine bay nearest the engine, one of them might have popped. there is also a fuse in the driver's kick panel that if blown will keep the car from starting, i can't remember but i think it's labeled "ECM".

aside from there there is just the 3 variables to check for: fuel, spark and compression.

I got rearended a couple days ago.
though my car doesn't look like it got hit, he nailed me pretty hard.
What's the possibility of that knocking something loose?

depends on the hit, some wires may have gotten pinched somehow at the fuel pump or elsewhere in the wiring system but i would rule that last and start checking for spark and being sure that the fuel pump is supplying pressure.

If the starter has a constant whine, would that mean that the starter is bad? stripped gears or something?

sounds kinda like what happen to my fc. someone told me to take out the spark plugs and crank for 7 seconds, then pop in the spark plugs again and then try to start my car. and it worked. something about the engine being flooded and this will clean it out. i guess its worth a try haha

similar to what happened to my other.. is that a common problem.

I know you can get a switch installed to turns the fuel pump on and off incase of this.

Think that's what I need? or should It not be a reoccuring thing?

a fuel cut switch is a nice feature and i have one installed.

flooding can be caused by: low compression, hot start issues with the injection or evap systems, not allowing the car to fully warm up before shutting it off or lastly cranking the engine in short bursts not allowing the engine to fully try to ignite the fuel.

in any case, sometimes simply putting your foot to the floor on the accelerator pedal will give it enough cranking compression to clear out the flooding issue.
