Road Bike
My 12 year old wants a Road Bike.
I've been looking and have about $300 to spend on a nice 54-58cm.
but the "fixie" craze has everyone pulling apart all the nice Road Bikes in that price range.
does anyone here have a line on a nice Road Bike in that price range??
Something from this Decade and nothing from Wal-Mart?

I think your better off buying a used good quality road bike, rather then a cheap new one that will fall apart. You should be able to find some nice Cannondale's on Craigslist in the 300-400 range. My mate got a 2002 Cannondale R400 for $250 on craigslist, which is a steal considering that bike is well worth $500. Just take your time, and bust out your low balling skills.
I highly suggest you buy a good quality bike to start off with, I've put over 8k miles on my 2005 Cannondale R500 a year, and besides regular maintenance, never any problems. And resale value is great.
Also, make sure he gets properly fitted. Don't want him getting back or knee injury's for riding a bike that doesn't fit.
Well hope to see ya at the next BBQ, looking forward to some more of that smoked brisket!

Spend $200 bux more and get your son something brand new. You aren't going to find a bike like this for $523 at a bike shop. This is actually something decent....not used junk. Aside from rebuilding rotaries for 8k (10K+ for FD turbo) I sell bikes for a living.
