Rip off gas stations!!!
Rip off gas stations!!!
ive been ripped off before a t the pump but now its ridiculous. I went to fill up my gsxr at chevron here in la habra on whittier blvd. It was 3.95 a gal and i bought 4 gallons. I paid 15 dollars and 80 cents and only got 3.1 gallons (or so said the meter but i bet thats not even correct). i told the owner (not the cashier as he doesn't speak english or spanish) and the owner told me "too damn bad" and that theres nothing i can do. i could imagine if i would have filled up my truck how much i would get ripped off.
Who do you notify when the owners are rigging their pumps?

Right here buddy!!! = )
Gasoline Consumer Complaint Form
Have fun getting that owner in trouble!
Pumps are checked by the L.A. County Department of Agricultural Commissioner/Weights & Measures. They usually affix a blue label on the pump indicating when the last inspection date was.

ALWAYS get a receipt when buying gas, even if paying cash - - as it has to show the amount paid and the gallons received.
Without it, it's just 'he said-she said'. With it, they face some serious fines if they aren't dispensing full measure.

Luckily the cashier really didn't know what was going on and he gave me my receipt while i was getting the owners attention. Then i showed him my receipt, he did some math on his calculator, acknowledged the fact i was missing some gas, then basically told me **** you! I always thought only those "hole in the wall" gas stations only did this, or arco's, but damn a chevron!

Hasn't been an issue here in Hawaii but I always check how much I'm getting. I grew up in Minnesota and back in the late 90's there was a scandal where they could solder in two wires and totally screw you over on gas.

Been a number of cases in recent years where the station owners use hacked firmware in the pumps to overcount fuel delivery (giving you less than displayed). Some were so sophisticated that they adjusted the overcount on a curve so that it was accurate at the two measures that the Dept of Ag uses to test pumps. SO, the pump would accurately deliver at 1 gallon and 5 gallons, but would underdeliver to varying amounts between and above those volumes. IIRC, an insider tipped the gov't off to the scam. Bunch of people went to prison over it.
Between cheated pumps and credit-card skimmers, this is why you're seeing "security seal" stickers on pumps now.
Which of course provides for new business opportunities for those who sell black-market counterfeit security stickers.
People just don't fear going to jail enough anymore, in comparison to the opportunity to profit.

and then you drive off in a rage, not watching your speed and get a speeding ticket.
wonder why i have no regret leaving Cali?
there's plenty of ******** in vegas though, much moreso than california but it's a price you pay for some peace of mind while in cali you watch all the red light cameras multiply and ref tickets increase.
