registering an OUT OF STATE CAR in CA...DMV Question.
I am registering an FC from Hawaii and It has already passed smog. My question is: will the DMV require a thourough inspection of the car? My concern is that it "PASSED" Smog but it has RB collected header an presilencer......noise is not an issue because it has a good catback on there.......if DMV will inspect the car then I will have to replace the precat at least right?
Yes, they will inspect VIN #'s and smog devices. Make a late afternoon appointment, specially on a friday. Just like everyone else, the DMV inspector will be pre-occupied on other thing.
Too bad ur not in LA; otherwise, I can hook you up.

If it already passed smog, I don't think it will be an issue?
My car was from texas. When I registered it, after passing smog of course, all the DMV clerk needed to see were matching vin #'s in 2 different places on the car.
If you have AAA, you may want to use them. Thats what I did.
I really do not think they will check for non carb approved parts on the car. They are not smog technicians.

can be seen here: the red car(fiancee) is the one that needs to be registered....the black car is mine.

I registered my out of state car no problem at my local DMV. The inspector just came out and verify all the VIN# and mileage after I passed the CA smog check. Easy and fast. However my car was all stock at that time.
