yeah right, you got blasted and that is your weak *** response. But I dont want to jump to conclutions, how many rebuilds have you done? Any pics? Any customers that could back your shop? Is is a residence or a real shop with a address we could look up?

If you guys are going to dispute. i suggest you guys make a new thread and get out of tsaiduk's thread. even though wowbogusman has involvement with the rebuilds. its not right to assume that its just him and neg repping the "business"

i have only been working on rotary engines for the past half a year, though i have only been "working" on it for so long, i am not dumb about it, and i know i am not that good at it, but i am learning as i go, but i am confident that the work that will be done, will be done right because I am not the only one who works on them, and i don't doubt the skills of my co-techs.. if there is a job that i know i can't accomplish, i wont be dumb and say, "oh yes WE can do it", but do a crappy job. I am humble enough to tell them face to face that i cant handle it... i will refer them to other shops that i know will suit their needs... (that just shows that i am not customer hungry)..

i have completely rebuilt 3 engines. 2 13b na and a 12A motor.
I have worked on turbo 2 motors, and i have another 12A motor that is in the process of rebuilding.

the work has been done in a garage, i have taken steps to ensure that it is a clean environment, free from objects that might damage the motor parts.

as for references... i cannot list, until i get permission from them...

a remarkable voucher, a friend of mine owns this company and has stuff done to his car. Parts were purchased and given to them to install. I can say for sure that they did a well done job. Not a mickey mouse bullshit job that takes like weeks and look like ****. If you guys really want a list of more vouchers, I'd be glad to write a ******* list for you. On another note, Matt isn't the only technician on the floor, maybe only on this forum. So all you ******** that have beef or anything ******* message each other about and stop ******* whoring my thread with your ****.

THANK YOU

I'm not trying to pollute your thread Tsaiduk, but remember this is a PUBLIC forum. You gotta take the good with the bad. You don't get to decide who posts and who doesn't.

I'm done. Matt quit trying to call me. Use the PM feature instead.

all i can say is the price you charge for a rebuild and removal+install is less than it cost me for parts alone on a simple rebuild with no major part replacement needed.

S4 T2 rebuild used as an example:

apex seals $200 Atkins $270 OEM
coolant seals/gaskets $150+
oil seals $40
side seal springs $30
corner seal springs $25
apex seal springs $65
cleaner/degreaser $20
OEM oil filter $6
engine oil $16
coolant $13
silicone sealant $5
main seals $12
engine paint $8
vacuum hose $20
fuel line $15
------------------------------------------
total for parts alone $625+

total labor invested in doing this work is approximately: ~40 hours

shop rate is $65 per hour

average price for engine removal and reinstall with rebuild is $1400 for the rebuild and $900 engine R+R for a total of $2300. i have base pricing to make the rebuilds more affordable, otherwise if i simply used my shop rate it would be over $2600 in labor alone.

those are all the BASICS for an engine rebuild, a comprehensive rebuild could be done when longevity of the motor is of no concern(ie someone needs a rebuild done as cheaply as possible and all parts have minimal wear) and those figures could be cut about in half.

i don't know about anyone else but i don't pay out of my pocket to rebuild motors for people....

and this has nothing to do with me being a builder and trying to snag work from people, anyone who knows me knows i am almost always swamped with work. this is more of a warning to everyone that you get what you pay for. the main difference is i have a warranty, i doubt someone doing work this cheaply is going to offer any kind of verbal or written warranty or honor it as they would lose money in the need to replace the coolant seals alone when tearing back into a motor.

now assuming you get new coolant seals and gaskets with this listed thread:

coolant seals and misc gaskets $150+
engine oil $16
coolant $13
oil filter $5
cleaner $10
oil seals $40
vacuum line $20
fuel line $15
--------------------------------
total materials required $269

that is the bare MINIMUM needed for breaking down any of these motors and assume the apex seals are ok, springs are not flattened and side seals are within spec.

now lets take $269 from say this listed $600 figure, that leaves $331 for labor to do 40 hours worth of work in cleaning, engine removal and reinstall which makes this all work out to be damn close to the state minimum wage at a measely $8.25 per hour the builder will be earning. and i thought i was cheap...... now if i lived with my parents and had plenty of garage space and LOVED doing this stuff i could imagine it being worthwhile but this does not seem like an endeavor anyone would want to take on.

i'm not trying to take stabs at anyone but i figured i would break things down to make it a little clearer what you get for the price so those who are looking know what they are getting.

Exactly, this is similar to our rebuilds. Over time and working on many rotaries, I have also found this to be the best bang for the buck, provided everything else is in top order. Anything less than this, and the build is questionable, anything more than this is good but more premium. And even with the parts you listed above, most engines I'm tearing down these days have chewed up oil pumps, scored e-shafts and grooved bearings. There's at least another $450.

Just like you said, you get what you pay for. Experience costs money.

Exactly, for 700 dollars I would expect a rebuild using NO new parts at all.

Even if I rebuilt my own motor, parts alone would cost me more than $1000.
