Rebuild Time?

1990 N/A 215,XXX (No known history of a rebuild), 5 spd. Stock

Starts fine, no smoke (unless revved really high on morning start-up, which is retarted and I never do it, only reason I know becuase previous owner informed me)

When Im driving (warmed up) and I decide to punch it. I get to about 3900 and I feel a slight boost in power, and it will be good till it gets to about 5900-6000 and all of a sudden it will drop power and then once it get to 6300 return to going (the car will jump almost like shifting).

The car does idle high, but if I have the a/c on idle nice and steady. While running the engine almost looks like it jumps (possible missfire but unsure), but again when I have the a/c on it is fine, (the jump is not near as significant).

When I shift at high rpm's (7k) it will make a loud popping noise comming from the exhaust.

I have been told it is a possible coolant seal (due to a slight sweet smell comming from tail pipe after car is off after a drive), but am unsure. But, Ive also been informed that there might also be a vacuum leak. Again I turn to the rotary guru's seeing as there is no one near where I live other then RR&R in gardena (comes with a high $$$$).

Can anyone help me on this issue? Is it rebuild time, and how much time do I have? Is it cheaper just to get another engine, also considering it has 215XXX miles on it.

If you guys can help me here (quick reply) or pm me. Id like to know.

Thanks.

(Also if you have a n/a enging lying around, or willing to sell. Pm me with details)

Talk with Yoshiya he's the owner and tuner of the shop, he also does repairs as well and basic installations for turbos, swaps, coilovers, exhaust etc .
