CA Rebuild questions--bay area

As you can see by my post count im not really a noob but I havn't been on the forum in about 4 years. I've forgotten a lot from back then, but im considering purchasing a FC now so im back.

questions 1:

How crucial is it for an FC with over 100k's on the engine to get it's engine rebuilt? Some people im talking to are trying to sell me on the point that their engines have been rebuilt and have less then 100k on the rebuilt engine. Should I really shoot for a rebuilt engine?

Im considering purchasing a 1989 GTU with just under 135k on it (new clutch and water pump put in this year).

or a Turbo II

(he said there a stage 4 clutch put in and the engine was rebuilt by previous owner)

question 2:

How much does it usually cost to have a shop rebuild an engine for a Turbo II or GTU?

Question 3:

I'll need this car to be my commuter (im currently using my brother's car because he lives in walking distance of his job but i want to get it back to him ASAP) so I cannot really wait for weeks on end for a rebuild. So how much time does it usually take?

I live in san jose so if i do a rebuild the work will be done in that area. I guess if people from around here have some specifics that be most helpful.

I mean part of me says just get an inline for your commuter car but most of me has always wanted an FC and this is a great chance to get my hands on one.

1. depends on the previous owner's maintenance. A 10K motor that has been treated like **** will be in worse shape than my stock 200K mile motor. If the previous owner can provide maintenance receipts then you should be ok. I would look for a recently rebuilt motor since the odds of the motor being in bad shape are lower.

2. Depends. I've seen it $1200 to $5000 (installed). call or PM Junpower for a rebuild quote.

3. Anywhere between 2 weeks to a month (depends on how busy the rebuilder is)

I DD an NA right now and used to DD my TII without any problems. The only reson to get a 4 banger would be is MPG is an issue for you.
