WTF bet is a 13brew ...but I bet you could chew them down? hhmmm. As far as I know, there is no guidelines in refrerence to tranny swaps in CA... Anyone know facts?

you guys hear about that formula 1 car that was stolen and they found the chassis in ontario like last year or the year before? 7 speed?

Fact is, you're wrong:

Transmissions and transaxles changes alone are not legal. Transmissions and transaxles can only be changed along with their matching engine. The total engine transmission package must conform to the engine change requirements above.

yeah it isn't legal to change trannies but most smog techs will only say something if it has been an auto to manual swap. changing over the hood with the corresponding labels would be enough to fool just about any smog tech anyways but whether the machine would catch it by VIN is something i'm not sure of.

has that changed in 3 years since i got the smog cert? i remember going over that topic in class. but no need to be such a **** there homeboy.

and the smog tech doesn't care.

It wasn't legal 3 years ago, and it's not legal now. This isn't the type of thing you usually fail smog for, so I'm not surprised you didn't know this. CARB has always certified powertrains as a transmission/engine combination.

Just because a smog tech won't call you on it, doesn't mean a BAR ref won't.
