PSA: Montanna Plate crackdown in California

May not specifically be about JDM cars using Montana plates but if you didn't pay the sales tax on your shitbox, they are looking into it.

When politicians and billionaires do it, it's smart business. When regular people do it, it's "fraud".

The little guys can never have fun. Though the people being indicted are not part of the "little guys", I just wouldn't be surprised at this point for them to move to the people with JDM cars registered in Montana regardless if the car was less than $10k or not.

Did you read the article? This isn't 'regular people' getting hit - these are the people the (m/b)illionaires and politicians are using as dealers to explicitly defraud the state. Now if the argument is that you don't think that sales tax should exist fine, I'll buy that, but this isn't that. This isn't tax avoidance, this is thinly veiled fraud and they're getting whacked for it.

What's more the people that are being hit are the folks we(I), who have used similar loopholes in good faith to keep a hobby alive, should be mad at.
