Both classes are "spec" classes meaning there are specific performance parts you can use. The spec7 class was originally based on the idea that you could drive your car to and from the track, so it is less racy than the Pro7. Pro7 on the other hand is essentially an IT car (stripped to be a race car, but still mostly stock parts). Pro7's use adjustable coilovers in the front, whereas Spec7 uses just racier springs and strut inserts on the stock unmodified strut. Pro7's in Az can replace the stock exhaust manifold with a Racing Beat header.

Both classes are a blast with quite a few cars with similar performance. In Az SCCA, both rx7 classes race with Spec 944's (porsche). In Ca they race with Spec Miata. I switched to Pro7 last year from Spec7 and my lap times are 2-3 secs faster. The switch to Pro7 made it more fun to race with spec miatas and also in ITA class in other divisions. Az still has a strong Spec7 group though. There are also quite a few old Spec7's available.

That was a very quick summary of the two classes, but hopefully helpful. If you are already in Avondale, the next PIR race is February 12-14. Its free to get in and watch.

And if you just want to have some fun, check out the NASA Arizona website, they have events year around at PIR and FIR and then there is ProAUTO as well also serving the community with racing events.

Great way to meet people or even get into HPDE etc!

that does sound like fun. i have not been into the racing side except for the occasional run in on the highway....lol i have been real interested in the drag side. id like to get my FD to around 350-400 rwhp but no more than 450. mostly just for play at the drag strip. my roommate and i are planing a road trip in spring to go look at the campuses and surrounding area. i don't actually retire from the navy till sep 2010.
