OR Portlander, bought a CA car.. Driving down tomorrow for inspections

Hey guys,
I bought a car that's been bouncing between owners since ~2002.. And never registered or titled [lost title].. The deal is, I plan to drive from Portland, OR to Redding, tomorrow night [~7hrs], wake up Friday and hit a shop for smog/brake and light, then go to DMV for a vehicle verification and title..

It's a CA 1989 99K mi S5 NA 100% stock aside from a manual swap. ...CA says that the car was "junked", so it needs all 3 inspections. Even though it doesn't look like it was ever in an accident.

It passed the Oregon DEQ [smog] test at 23 PPM hydrocarbons, 0.0121% CO and 12.7 CO+CO2(%), and I got an Oregon VIN inspection.. I'll bring both along, but I doubt that they'll help..

It bounces a little at idle and sometimes rattles the stock cat's heat shielding.. The tach, temp, and voltage are only working intermittently.. But the car runs fine on the hwy, and idles smooth some of the time. [TPS, waiting on a good one from a friend, but I won't get it before the trip]. Oh and the driver's side headlight motor is terribly seized.. So I'm just leaving them both up.

A few questions..
Is Tuckers Automotive or Bryant Automotive a good place for the Brake/Lamp/Smog inspections? I'm fairly nervous about making an appointment at a place I've never even been close to [rather, I always do all my own work], but I don't have much choice.. Also, I know it might be tough to get a first thing appointment on a Friday, the day before.. So if you have a suggestion, I'd really appreciate it!

Are the Redding DMV people reasonably good [rather, as good as can be, for DMV employees?] or should I drive up to Mt. Shasta's DMV?

I only get one shot at this... My last OR trip permit runs out on the 11th.. After that, I'd have to trailer it all the way down.

Lastly, if something should break on the car, is there anyone who might be willing to help save me? I know it's a lot to ask, and I'll happily buy you dinner and gas.

Thank you guys so much for any help! I bought this car specifically to keep it out of the junk yard [Literally one day away from being towed when I picked it up ~6mo ago]. It must live!!

Well to finish the story...

It made it down and back safely, with the tach working for most of today, the temp and voltage working most of most of the time... It failed smog but passed Brake & Light.. So I got it done as a title-only!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
