So I went down to a local radio shack today to purchase a cop scanner and to my surprise I guess all of the local police have encryption for there CBs. I asked the guy what the encryption scheme was and he said cracking it's a federal offence. I am here in Orange County Huntington Beach. Anyone have any info on what scheme they are using?

 

i ran a beartracker scanner for years , most police and CHP are going digital so you need to get a digi scanner ( they cost $$$) - chris

 

Scanner is good particulary if you live in a md-rise bldg. You can hear everyone's cordless phone conversations.

Only data that is sent in the in car computer is encrypted. 99% of voice communications are not. and yes, cracking the in car encryption is a federal offense.

with a chip in a beartracker you can get cell phone calls as well
