I haven't done it but have looked into doing it.
The price for the parts is most likely going to be more than 3k. That depends on what you want to do though.
Such as:
Rebuilt engine(2k)
J spec(800-1k ish)
You'll need the harness and ecu of the same type(s4/s5 etc)
Are you going to do the tranny also? The differential and Half shafts?
Also what model you do it in also changes things(GTU/GXL or base)
I don't know of any places over here which would install it. But expect to pay some good money for some one to do it for you.
As for doing it yourself. Unless your mechanically inclined and can problem solve I wouldn't try it.
That's why I am decideing on either a TII or swap. I have crap luck when it comes to just putting something in and it working.
If you do find a place which will install definitely give me PM though. I would love to turbo my 88 GTU.

Um there's 2 of us from glendale I think.
FC3AZ or something like that and one other actually. I can't remember their name.
Also I don't think there are any Rotary Mechanics in PHX. I know theres a guy in Tuscon though. A girl I know had her engine rebuilt/installed from him for like 3k and it took a couple weeks.

I would think Kevin at Rotary Resurection could give you a pretty complete list of parts. YOu might also check out fc3s.org for a j-spec engine (and/or tranny), Dave is a good guy.
As for shops in Tucson there are only two that I am aware of. Yaw Power owned and run by Paul Yaw, but he mostly works on race cars and engines, not much in the "streeable" market. Then Rx For Your 7. He seems plenty nice enought but he gets $8000 for a 3rd gen rebuild/replace? I think that's rediculous, and having talked to him on a few occasions, wouldn't take my car to him. Not that he isn't plenty capable, just really expensive.

I am in Tempe, I have an FD with a single turbo, GT35/40r, from A-Spec. Can anyone recommend a place to tune it? I have powerfc, 1680 secondaries, FPR, Innovate wideband, etc... I may just need a basic map so that I can get the car down to Tucson safely. Trevor has volunteered to help me tune.
But if there is someone in Phoenix who can help. Or a shop with a dyno I could pay... I really just want to get my car running safely and back on the road.
