Passing Ca emissions
Passing Ca emissions
Swapping out BNR's and I need to change the secondary fuel rail out with 1600's. Doing so obviously you have to remove the ACV. I believe I will get a check engine light if I swap out the Power FC with the stock computer ?? Anyhow how do you get around this for Ca. emissions?

If you manage to be able to keep your ACV and air pump working along with having cats in tact you'll probably be fine with that setup.
Otherwise, you won't get around Ca. emissions without getting a "special" smog check.

The ACV cannot stay on the car when you go with the secondary fuel rail but you can keep the air pump and the cat.

The secondaries don't come on at 2500. We already have 1300's in the secondary rail and the car passes just fine.

If the 25 mph was in 3rd gear, I would expect you would have passed as well. But the book says it needs to be in 2nd, thus crossing the threshold where the 2ndaries kick in.
I had 1000's in my 2nd gen with stock ECU, passed the 15 mph no problem but totally failed 25 mph. I was betting on the 2,500 kick on threshold as well, but no go.
For smog I put everything back to stock except the 1000cc secondaries, at least the first time around. Replacing them with the stock injectors in the secondaries, passed like a champ on the re-test.
Just reporting from experience.

Check engine light being on fails the functional portion of the smog check.
ACV missing fails the visual portion of the smog check, and will more than likely cause a failure on the emissions portion as well.

Not a worry.
That is a problem.

If you can rewire the check engine light to not be illuminated while the car is running but still turn on during the "key on engine off" bulb check then you are in the clear on that portion.
Like I said, a special smog is probably in order for you lol.

Or alternatively, ID 725's could be fitted into a modded primary rail, which might also clear the ACV. The ID 725 flows about the same as the Denso 850's (for a given p/w, within the usable range) but has the advantage of being much more linear and has the capability to be reliably modulated down to much lower flows than the Denso units and at similar pulsewidths. (I suppose the ID 850 or even the 1000's could work in the primary if your ecu can deliver a short enough p/w.) I think these units could give the drive-ability and emissions performance of the stock 550's.
The knee of the delivery curve is about 3-->4ms for most of the Denso side feed injectors, below which they probably weren't designed to operate and don't seem to be particularly stable. The 550's also have a reasonably flat curve--the 850's or related 1300 variant do not. Additionally, ID 1000's flow just a bit more for a given p/w than that of the [modded] Denso 1300's and are again more linear. So they could also be well suited as a secondary injector.
Some food for thought.
Shoot. People w/ smog problems. HT ME UP!! No car needed, NO PAPERWorK. Just give me the cash and in a few days go pick up your tags. If that interest's some people PM Me
