Question NorCal engine Builder?

I'm looking for an engine builder in NorCal who's reasonably priced. I've researched and found Akins and Pineapple up north, but at $3500-4k; and I'd like to be less than that.

It seems like Ben was the man, but he's out now, based on his signature in the various threads.

Previously I used a fellow named Scott, who I believe was at Checkpoint, and later at a Recycler also in Rancho, but he's disappeared too.

Can anyone recommend anyone to me? I've got a 12a that's tired (lost power after being overheated). I could (easily) be convinced to swap to a 13b; I just need a builder who's got some parts lying around and who's reasonably priced.

Thanks!
Scott

Which place is that in the bay area?

I can only think of a few rotary shops (rotorsport, etc) and maybe one or two guys.

i might be convinced to do another engine but i am working on finishing up the last jobs still and have a few to complete.

just an engine, no more complete removal and reinstalls.

you may want to consider the 13B swap mainly because sourcing the 12A parts is going to be rather difficult at this stage. 13B housings can be chopped to work but it is almost $1k to modify the housings to work in a 12A based engine cutting them to proper width and milling the coolant seal grooves into the housings. but that would still only put the price up to about $2600 for just the block to rebuild(plus about $500 in shipping either to and from or without core).

I'm easily convinced to move to a 13b... I just have no parts, so if its "spend to hack back to a 12a" or "spend to move to a 13b", then I'm spending on the more future proof solution.

I'd love to take a number for your service, and I'd gladly do whatever I can to make it easy on you.

send me a PM in a few weeks and i will see what i can do for a hybrid engine block, i will see whether an old school 13B carbed manifold will fit a 13B block with 12A 4 port irons.

Thank you. I will. I figured if I get a newer 13b and can't find a carb setup, I can take an fi manifold and 12a manifold and cut both up to make the appropriate mount on both sides.

It's for a race car, and I have fabricator friends who I could likely talk into it.

I'll wait to see what you can do for me before I put much effort into that part of it.

Thanks again,
Scott
