Can the owners of the cars do the pulls themselves? No offense to anyone but I would rather be the one pulling my car to its limits.

I am interested in doing a comparison.

You might be able to sit in the car but your not going to be able to drive the car on the dyno. dont worry, they know what they are doing.

see you there...

I just got my EBC in and was tuning it for 14PSI but If I cant drive my own car then I am out... unless they are willing to take full responsibility if something happens

Hmm. Well I might come and watch, but I have seen plenty of people that tell me they know what they are doing then proceeded to bounce the car off the rev limiter. Which was past red line anyways, this was someone else with my car on the dyno.

I am not saying these guys would do any such thing. Just one bad experience for me its not worth it to have such things happen for the sake of a printout....

I am sure they know what they are doing, looks like you guys are going to be plenty busy anyways... but as I said, I would rather do the pulls own car so I can watch everything closely and react accordingly. Where as someone else might not know what to look for and let off right away in case of problems.

Like I said, don't take offense to it, It could just be me since I have access to a dyno as well I just want to be the one to blame if something goes wrong with my car. Not some random person I don't know.

Plus another reason for this is someone who owns the car will push it as hard as they want, it may not be 'all the way' but to where they are comfortable. If something goes wrong engine/mechanical wise then they deal with it, not the operator getting blamed for it. As long as the car is properly secured, no matter how hard they let off or gas it, the car wouldn't go anywhere. Worked fine for us so far, everyone has been happy to do it themselves. Of course maybe the owners insurance might not cover it, who knows, not my place. I am just sharing my experiences with you guys in case it might be helpful.

There are so many arguments about dynojets/mustang dyno and the others so I don't even want to get into that.

running your own car on the dyno is completely out of the question, its a safety and liability issue.

before you put your car on the dyno, you have to sign a waiver, so even if they blow your engine, its not thier fault. its your responsibility to make sure your car is in proper running condition before you put your car on that dyno.

this is standard for ALL dyno services around the country.

no it's not... been to plenty of dyno's where I was the driver.

Nobody knows how my car runs but me. If there is something wierd happening I will know 60 seconds before some dyno monkey will... It's like elfking said, I don't need some dyno monkey blowing my stuff up because they either hate rotary's or dont know how my car runs. If I were gonna dyno my Jetta that is completly stock then I would say no problem, let the dyno monkey run it

a dyno can cost up to $100,000 depending on what it is. a shop is not going to let you be the driver, unless they are stupid. one mistake and you could break the dyno, or your car could fly off the dyno.

nobody will let you get on thier dyno, unless they know you, and they know that you know what you are doing. its too much of a liability. sorry.

I have to disagree with you unfortunately. If the car is properly tied down, on and off throttle responses are not going to be causing the car to 'fly off the dyno'. In general a car is attached with more anchors then anyone knows what to do with. Depending on the dyno shop of course. (lots of variables here.)

For instance the couple dyno's I have seen and used are rated for 1200hp or so, and similar torque output. A dyno wont be breaking by anyones car when properly anchored it will stay still. The rollers (or hubs) will turn and the car will stay put. Has very little to do with the driver. They could hit the breaks and it will only wear their brakes. The car will not be going anywhere. They could toss it in reverse and their transmission would grenade. The dyno would be just fine. Worst case, the reading is inaccurate.

Making statements about what 'everyone' does and does not do with their shops when you don't know for a fact that its that way is not very nice. I didn't come here to argue with you. On top of that calling them stupid for it is ridiculous.

In response to this, I have had my car dynoed before, I explained my experiences in my above response. I also run one from time to time on the weekends. Unfortunately personally I had a bad experience with an operator and one of my cars. He didn't seem to care about the redline, and redline buzzer that the RX-7's have. It was also out of its power range before that too. Pointless to run it that high and dangerous (motor wise) in my opinion on a stock setup.

I simply asked if I could run my own car on the dyno, then said I would watch after you gave me the response. Nothing more. I am sorry for upsetting you by asking a question. Enjoy the dyno day.

I agree that some people can be careless, but most dyno shops dont allow you to drive, let alone being in the car while its even on the dyno.

ugh, definitely not if someone else is going to be running my car on the dyno. no way i am leaving my motor in the hands of someone else if it happens to run lean under WOT.

i may come down to watch but it all depends when i am finished with a few things around my shop.

when we had the dyno day at Brian's(elfking) uncles shop we all got to run our own cars. what do you think they have to do when a tuner is tuning? they rent the dyno to an induvidual who doesn't work at the shop to tune on the dyno. sure some kids may be irresponsible with their own cars but if the chains are secure the only thing they would damage is their car and possibly the dyno which insurance covers, if anything happens to give which would be a poor tie down issue as the restraints should be able to hold the full weight of a car pushing 1000HP.
