AZ Need help getting FC with straight-through exhaust to pass emissions

Previously my '90 NA was licensed in WA state which had no emissions requirements. I need to get it licensed in AZ. The motor is a pretty close to stock rebuild, but straight through exhaust. Im guessing I need OEM cats? and probably catbacks to go with it?

You will need the air pump and cats to get through emissions. catback doesn't matter, they don't care about noise.
Other alternative is collectors insurance if it's not a daily driver and garage kept.

Excellent thank you Tom. Its not a daily driver so collectable ins looks like the way to go. Just got quote of about $101/year heh.

Thanks again!

For my old CYM, I bought a universal 3" cat and racing beat flanges for my racing beat exhaust. I then had the muffler shop weld a 1/2 tube for the air injection. I bought used corvette electric airpump and hard-wired it in the engine with a fuse (so it ran all the time when I put the fuse in). then ran the output of the airpump directly into the main cat. Used 2 quarts of denatured alcohol in the fuel tank and the car passed the Arizona emissions easily.

So its totally doable if you actually want it to pass the sniffer test.

They check for the pump, right? So it doesn't need to be THE pump, but a pump? Or will it be fine to have the car with no pump provided it passes the sniffer?

When I took the test in Tucson back in 07, they didn't care seem to mind that visually, you couldn't see any airpump. Only that it had a cat and it passed the sniffer test. Air pump and new/good working cat is super critical. If you don't have an airpump, you will have zero chance at passing even with the best of tunes.

If you need visual then stock air pump, cats, and functional acv. I believe you can shim the diaphragm in the acv if diaphragm has failed to pass but double check

Any update on this? I just went through emissions for my 7 back in May and they didn't inspect for a cat or airpump.

Hey guys bumping this. How would I register outside of Phoenix? Get a PO Box somewhere and use that as my address?

Go to a 3rd party license place, and have an address you can give them for a place in Payson (or wherever) that you park your car. If I remember correctly they require a physical address.
If you register out of town and do all your driving locally you do risk being ticketed for not having registration correct. I don't know anybody who has been ticketed, but it is a risk.
