OR My shifting is horrible! I've been working on my shifter for a few days now. HELP!

I'll begin this thread by informing that I bought my 1987 N/A RX7 eight or nine months ago. The previous owner had a short shifter installed and gave me the OEM shifter as well. When i bought the car I was just learning how to drive manual transmission and I had no idea what to really look for. Presently, I can say with confidence that I am NOT the cause of my poor shifting! The timing of the clutch and the gear placement is way off. The short shifter that was installed was very clicky and scratchy. I finally maned up and decided to remove it and install the OEM shifter the previous owner gave me. After countless hours of research and five to eight attempts of fixing what I believed to be the problem I have given up on trying to fix it.
I have ADDED TRANS/DIFF OIL(80W90) and MADE SURE LOWER/UPPER BUSHINGS AND THE GROVE ON THE SHIFTER ALIGHN WITH THE HOUSING. Nothing seems to work. At first I thought using the OEM shifter would solve everything! If only it were that easy!
I really need some experienced opinions to guide me in the right direction. I have a feeling the gear housing may be completely jacked up because of the short shifter. PLEASE HELP!

what is the issue? grinding?

if it is grinding it could be a clutch or clutch hydraulics issue. if the clutch is not releasing completely then the transmission will not want to go into gear during gear changes. air in the hydraulic system will give these same symptoms, or a poorly adjusted pedal free height.

Yes grinding is very much the issue. The short shifter I removed the other day has real nasty cuts on the bottom end of it. So, my clutch does feel a little funny. I feel little a little click on the clutch pedal when I'm pressing/releasing it. So do you think I need to focus on my clutch rather my shifter?

Mel is been a clown don't mind him.

Try bleeding your clutch new fluid helps. Then adjust your clutch pedal to your liking. Try again if it still grinds then tranny is gone they are cheap so start looking for one

Provided that cluctxh is not the issue, mishifting is usually caused by broken engine and transmission mounts. So if you dont want solid mounts due to vibration, an engine torque brace helps. Hows that for a professional advice lmao

Update: I got a new exedy clutch kit installed... Didnt fix my problem. My mechanic noticed that my rex's rear tranny mounts need replacing. I did a little research and came across lots of supporting data that bad tranny mounts cause similar symptoms to what I am experiencing with my car. I will replace these by next weekend and update my thread.
