My LA Auto Show Pix *56k BEWARE
Just back from the LA Auto Show and thought I’d share some of the photos I took. They’re not great as they were taken on a cheapo 3 megapixel. My wife has the better camera but she’s in Chicago atm.
I would like to say up front that the most disappointing exhibit was the Nissan/Infiniti exhibits. I mean honestly if I wanted to see a 350z and a G35 I’d just go to the dealership. Their exhibit had almost no flare, originality or interesting products. No concepts – just what you’d see on any dealership with a Nissan banner.
Saab Aero-X concept car. YEA FOR PLASTIC!

Chrysler Imperial RETURNS!

Ethanol EVO:

Some Info on the car:

Dodge Challenger. I really like the throwback to the Chrysler pony car rear ends, hoods, and door handles. Not a bad looking car up close. It’s a tad bit longer than the original Challengers but just as fast. I think top end is 170mph.

SRT Viper:

Redline Toyo and Hemi. A throwback to the 1960s.

BAJA Mini-stock class winner truck. Still fresh with dirt.

First let me preface this with that I grew up around Mopars. Old Mopars. I own a ’70 Superbee with a 383, a ’69 Cornet with a Dana rear end and a 440. SOoo, this urked me like nothing else. First the Superbee was a car. A whole car unto itself. The charger was a car unto itself. It’d be like saying “I really like that Miata Rx-7” or “WOW that Corvette Camera” sure is nice. Nostalgia mixed with marketing.

Sub Rally car:

Acura Racing:

Acura’s Drivable Triangle – I forget it’s name. Was lame:

Nissan’s VQ engine and the only really photographical thing to their display. AGAIN WORST EXHIBIT AT THE EVENT.

Masarati:

Racing Solstice. I also found out that they quit making the GTO in June of ’06.

Ford $$:

SKYLINE in the basement.

The Lambo is nice but the girls are even nicer:

0-60 in 4 seconds in a 100% electric car?

Ford Mustang Concept. Note the tail lights and the “rear” window glass.

Ford Cobra GT.

MAZADA concept. Not my thing but the body panel fins were nice. I heard a lot of people talking very positively about the concept car and the audience really seemed to like it:

Fastest production FWD car was almost over lookable. No banners, no nothing. Mazda really down played the Mazda 3 at the event. 263hp Disi Turbo Engine and not a peep from Mazda reps. In fact, you couldn’t even open the hood or sit in it.

A Honda Concept Car:

Toyota’s Tundra. Their display was pretty lame too. Their cars are just not exciting. Alternative fuel was STILL their big selling point.

Finally a 911:

they used some WEIRD *** lights in there. I couldn't get proper white balance on my camera! That mazda speed 3 was RED. i mean BRIGHT red. And it looks like you couldn't get good white balance either! It came out orange! I mean the red was like ferrari red.

Yeah, the 3 was BRIGHT red as was the electric rocket-type car. Both bright bright red. I didn't use a flash and the crappy camera doesn't zoom so I was lucky to get what I got.
The fact that someone on a Mazda board didn't know that the MS Mazda3 is the fastest FWD car produced is a testiment that Mazda is not properly promoting that car. I'm sure they'll undersell it like Dodge did with the Neon SRT. If I ran Mazda's sales department, I'd make it the mandatory opening greeting for anyone that got near the car.
Customer: That's a pretty car. What is that?
Me: That's the new MazdaSpeed 3. It's currently the fastest FWD production car on the planet.
Customer: Oh, I think I'll take 2.

here are mine, as you can see, i've messed with my contrast/white balance a billion times with the mazda, and STILL it came out worse than i expected. The TT came out better at least...

i should've just went b/w on this mazdaspeed 3 haha.

there we go, my 6 pics.

I went to the show also. Did u notice the brakes on the mazda concept. They went face to face wtiht he wheels and noticed it was a drum type brake. Looked like it was a bearing with brakes hitting them instead of discs. Pretty cool and weird. Any know what they are?

They weren't functional brakes. Even the tires were just some plastic material, you couldn't tell??
