my car NEEDS papers!!!!
ok. heres the story. I got myself a new car. Well, its another white 84 GSLSE. A lot cleaner than my previous one. I got it off my uncle for FREE!! he just gave it to me because he didnt have time for it. The only thing is that he cant find any of the papers for the car. He bought it off some dude in 2000 and hasnt even transferred the car in his name yet. Its just been sitting in his garage for years. I only know the previous owners name.. thats all. My engine is almost done and I just wannna get my car on the road already. I just dont really know how to handle this situation. Ive asked a few people and no one that i know has a clue on what i should do. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks in advance. I would go to the DMV but i dont wanna wait in line to ask questions.

If you have AAA, you can do it there. There are forms for a transfer of title with no title available. If the car has been sitting unregistered for four years, it might not even be in the system any more.

Well there are two ways to fix the lost paper problem... One is to get all the paperwork for a lost certificate, go to the last owner and have him sign it over or you can lien sale the car, both of which can be done at the DMV. A lien sale requires a waiting period while the previously regisatrd owner is contacted to find out if they are still interested in the car. I think it is 45 day waiting period. I think this might be the form.
