MRX7 auto in San Diego.

Hello Californanites.

I'm a Canadian, been looking for an FD for about a year and half now.

I'm planning on taking a week or two off work this summer on an "FD" finding trip, thinking of heading down the west coast. You lucky dogs have about 5 times the FD's for sale along that coast, than all of Canada.

Anyway, this guy in San Deigo, seems to be hoarding FD's. He doesn't have a website, and he doesn't seem to know how to spell or use proper language in his autotrader ads, but he DOES have alot of FD's. So it would be super handy to just fly in, look at all he's got in stock and drive home.

However, it sounds a wee bit suspicions to me -- i get the impressing he's curbsiding alot of FD's.

Here is one of his ads.

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...en&cardist=735

So does anyone know if he's reselling flood and salvage cars? or is he some kind of huckster? It would be amazing to go to one shop and see more FD's for sale than in all of Western Canada, all at once, but usually things are not as good as they seem.

Any info would be apprciated if any of you have bought or looked at FD's from this guy.

I searched for "mrx7" on the fourms, and i found barely any responses.

Been to the guys dealership. He has a lot of FD's and he is legit as far as I could tell. He won't bargain worth ****, so what he asks for is what he wants. Hard to talk to because he just tells you pretty much the same story for all FD's. As far as I know he does sell salvage titled one's and lets you know beforehand...

did you have any of the FD's looked at, or did you take a close look yourself?

His prices are a bit of a premium, but it could be because he actually has a good product. I'm just a pessimist by default and assume anything is a either a rip-off or a scam.

AVOID MRX7... ALL OF HIS FDs are salvage or rebuilt. I tried buying an R1 from him but it wouldnt pass smog so he couldn't hand it over.

What he does is buys the FDs from auctions out of state and brings them to CA.

MRX7 is an arab guy... his name is Mohammed Ahmed & he goes by the name Fred.

he hoards NSXs and FDs and a few 240s

personally i think hes a joke -- trying to sell salvaged FDs for 16k..

But i think San Diego is too far a drive for me. could probalby do San Francisco so i'm going to keep looking up north.

I work right down the street from his place. I remember when he came in here becuase one day I went to the starbucks down the street and there were 5 FDs parked in the lot (which he uses to play duckduckgoose with his lot i guess).
From the outside, some of these cars look nice, others did not (the silver one is a weird titanium color and its a bad paint job). I know he used to get used parts from Seth to replace broken ones on those cars.
I did call him when my car burnt up and he told me that he sells those cars for 12-13k and just to let him know what I wanted. I, of course, would rather get it myself than go through someone so I told him I didn't want anything.
So does he really sell them for 12-13k? Dont think so.

Now that's bitter. How may FD's out there have been rebuilt, engine-wise, if not they need it Or did you mean a complete car?
Any salvaged car should say so on the title....
My buddy's talked with the guy and from what I heard he buys cars from all over the US and resells them. He even does consignments? Anyhow, I've peeked at some of the FD's and they look ok from the outside. but I'd get them on a lift before I ever bought one....
15k seems about average for his prices? he was asking 17k for a low mileage CYM?

This is the guy that works right out out miramar rd correct?

My coworker just bought an FD from him about 3 months ago. 94k on the clock.

The car seemed well taken cared of. Not a salvage tittle, engine was very clean, no suspension noises, car was 100% stock, ast was stock but looks new. No dent's what so ever. Decent paint job. No oils leaks either.

The down side: IMO the car was a respray from silver. How do I know this? lol while the car was burgandy (yeah I know ) the engine bay remained silver . Also the car seemes kinda slow to me (at about 190 RWHP if I were to estimate), but that could be just me since my car is modded. According to the seller: a full vacum hose job had been performed (hoses looked new ) but without a boost gauge how can we tell for sure if everything is up to par. Also the precat is still on there so it's very likely that it's bad now (that would cause a loss in power for sure).

Yeah this guy would not budge from his price which I think was 15k, even taking into consideration that the car would need a rebuild soon. About 2 months after my coworker bought it, the car began to show signs of a coolant seal going. It's been getting progressively worse. I believe that the car was overheated at some point in it's life.

conclusion: The guy is legit, but you are not going to get the best deals from him that's for sure. Also since he is just a dealer who just buys FD's you never really know what you are going to get. IMO you are better off buying from a pivate seller who just rebuilt the engine and is selling his FD for about the same price as this dude.

Edit- if the car would have had a fresh rebuild it have been a fair deal.

he may be a joke but there is a sucker born every minute. a customer who couldn't wait for me to build an engine bought her own and paid $3500(same engine i build for $1500, used rotors housings/rotors/irons etc except i pay attention to detail this shop didn't) for it and i needed to repair the ill built motor before installing it or it wouldn't have lasted 100 miles. just goes to show you some people think they get what they pay for, there is no truth in that statement, the truth is buy into who you trust.

another thing FD's seem to be listed at a higher price in Southern California than the rest of the country.

Edit another thing:
According to the ad that you posted: It lists a 1995 Mazda RX-7 for $18,995

I should point out that this is not the interior of a 1995 FD. The door panels should be black not tan. Tan door panels only came with the 93's.

and the engine bay is white??? I'm confused... because there were no white 93's. Maybe he replaced the interior from a 93

Bought a 94 touring model from Fred a few months ago. Claimed engine was rebuilt about 20K ago and it looked like it. Title was clean and car was in very good shape for having 120K on it. Only recently had a problem come up with idling. Fred even came through a couple of months later with OEM floor mats in the right color and in very good shape for my car, as promised! He had some salvage title cars on his "lot" but the one I bought had a clean Carfax. His price was fair as far as I could tell - we shopped quite a bit and priced cars in and out of state (California). He always answers phone calls and is prompt to meet you at his location. Follows up very well on registration and making sure you get tags and plates. He even had the car inspected and changed out a bad brake caliper before closing the sale (at his cost).

I bought my '95 from Fred about 8 months ago. 36k miles on the clock. I had him take it to a Mazda dealership for an inspection and compression check. They car has been great, although I did have to replace the clutch very shortly after as I suspected a tiny bit of slippage and Seth Scally confirmed this.

Fred wouldn't budge on price with me either and I ended up paying 21k for the car (completely stock, and remember the miles). He did a lot of legwork to get teh car to me and sat in the credit union while I got the finances sorted out.
