does anyone know if anybody has actually gotten a ticket on these things?

According to this news report the testing is done with no consequence to the driver and is voluntary.

and yet again, i have to inform people.........
mobile smog stations are for bars use to combat black-market smogs. if a car that is obviously modified, or obviously doesnt pass, passed recently, they start looking into citing whoever did the smogs.
they are hardcore going after smog techs at this point in time, more shops have been shut down due to techs losing their license from clean piping then ive ever seen.

to sum it all up, the mobile smog does not affect you, just the techs that are doing illegal ****

now, if you have an obviously illegal car, and they taxi you into the smog check, and the cops cite you, then youre fucked, hence the tow-trucks......

And because of your comment the thread's value just went nowhere !

Everybody knows that you have a smog exempt car, but the way California is going that will only last you so long, and the car you're saving for your grandson might never be able to be driven by him... if things go faster and faster with this whole Electric car etc...
And just because it's exempt doesn't mean it doesn't have to abide by the emissions laws that were in force at that time, which you're by your own admission violating, just because you're exempt just means you don't have to go to get your cars checked, it doesn't mean you can do anything you want and not get caught !

This post was to let people know about the mobile smog unit that I saw setup.......

I'm sure it would affect many modded cars that had to go thru it and possibly have their cars

inspected....getting caught and getting the car back to stock; dealing with the ref station is a PITA imo......

I'm sure some of the highly modded cars would just want to stay away.

why chance it and also go thru the hassle of the traffic jam......

just a heads up........

Old but ever so true saying.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If you have a modded car, it does everyone in your circle a favor to avoid these when ever possible and stay under the radar. For that reason, to the OP.

Yes, exactly. Sure the smog checks aren't against you but if they find you're modded, of course they're going to nail you. You're going to incriminate yourself by going through one of these things.

Well put Hozz and thank you OP. It seems like all of these mobile smog stations have been near the beach.

^ Do it.

Just a reminder: It is technically legal to avoid a DUI checkpoint. However like magus2222 said, they'll go after you for anything they can think of.

Edit: IN CALIFORNIA

I am SO glad I'm semi-rural/isolated and away from this nonsense. I have to smog but it's basic area....

I feel for you guys that have test-only and annual inspections, hood checks, smog checkpoints, cops pulling you over for no front plate, etc.

I guess it's the way it is when one is in populated areas
