Usually it only gets up to a cool 115 in the summer, its only been 120 once or twice. We are a "right to work" state, so your employer can fire you for no reason or because he thinks you have a lazy eye. Apartment rent will be at least $500 for a place where you are afraid to go out at night, so if you get a minimum wage job you cant afford to live here unless you have 15 roommates. But its nice here fall through spring, makes it all worth the miserable summer.

minimum wage in AZ is $5.15
Depending on what suburb you want to live and work in (Glendale, Peoria, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Chandler, Tempe, Mesa, Gilbert, etc...), average rent for a typical apartment, say 2bed/2bath, is going to be about $500-700.
If you're doing exterior/concrete work, then I see you working in the outer suburbs where there's a lot of development. Look in Surprise, Laveen, Mesa, Gilbert, Maricopa, Avondale, Carefree, Anthem, or Goodyear. Those suburbs are still building homes and growing.
Expect 100+ pretty much all summer. Nice 75-85 deg weather during the rest of the year.
I'm moving out of AZ back to Northern CA. 4 years of heat is enough for me.

Traffic depends on where you live and where you work. Some freeways make you think you are in LA, others you can go as fast as you want at 8 in the morning. Good rule of thumb is that traffic gets plugged up from the suburbs into downtown phoenix in the morning, and heading away from downtown in the evening. If you are working in those outer areas you should be good as far as traffic if you get a place that is relatively central.
Minimum wage here went up to 6.75 an hour after the last vote, and its supposed to go up by the amount the cost of living goes up each year. Thats not enough to get by on though.

I lived in Scottsdale for 18 months. Wife hated it b/c summer is too fricking hot. The rest of the year is nice BUT (1) very dry (10% or less RH); (2) dusty; (3) nothing to do except to fornicate with desert fox, wild pigs; and (4) you may catch "VALLEY FEVER."
The last part was what got me to move out of AZ. Why? It's a fungus that lives in the soil during the wet season (Dec-Feb) and then it forms a spore during March to July to be released into the air July through Oct. Catch it and that **** is yours for life.
I see your profile as a doctor, have you seen cases with Valley Fever? I saw two in my company alone and scared the bejesus out of me.
