i got there late. drove the rx8, then got a drive on the mazda3. the track for the mazda 3 was more fun, i made the wheels squeal. i would never buy an rx8 after that run. the mazdaspeed6 line had closed by the time i got there.

Will they kick you off the course if you squeal the tires but not hit any cones? Last time at the GM drive event I bottomed out the suspension on their GTO and abused their tires. No cones hit but they told me to tone it down or leave.

Everyone was squeeling tires on the Sports (Miata and RX-8) track and a few on the Mazdaspeed 6 track (where there was even a couple bozos turning off the VSC and spinning out taking rows of cones out).
the rx8 was amazing. thats all i have to say. when ever people talk down about it, its cuz they're only testing speed/power and not the handling. after driving the mazdaspeed 6 then driving the rx8. it was a world of difference.

Those clutches don't start out mushy, at least on the Speed6 course. We have gone through 26 clutches in 9 cities from people running in 3rd gear or just not knowing how to drive. Like pushing in the clutch in turns whenever they hit the brakes. We've lost two trannys from people downshifting back into first and not matching revs. The worst part is Mazda doesn't have any spare trannys for us so we started the weekend with only 7 Speed6's instead of 9.
Stu and I spend a lot of time setting up the courses so you only need to make one shift and your done. People just don't listen or they are used to other manufacturers events that don't even let you drive a stick and do everything they can to slow you down. We want people to get in and not quite drive it like you stole it, it shows off the cars to the people Mazda wants to sell to. People that like to have fun.
Anybody that was there and listened to Stu Hayner in the tent for very long(oh, the lines go way faster with all the cars running), I'm the guy that raises the bunnies that we put under the cones to deter people from hitting them. I guess people in San Fran hate bunnies after last weekend! Luckily they multiply like, well, rabbits, so I'll have more for LA this weekend.
