[QUOTE=Miata_mx5;8512346]What do you think surfing, ballet dancers, professional skateboarders, freestyle bikers, actors, drifters, blue angels, all have in common? They show off their skill, entertain people, and LOOK COOL. Hate one, might as well hate them all, Or you are a hypocrite. Dislike is one thing, being a hypocrite about it is another.
Also, a lot of the understeer, oversteer concepts and techniques used in drifting are used in rally racing and professional motorsports as well. A lot of the "drifters" in japan are involved in professional motorsports (I.E: Time attacks and the sort) as well. Same in europe and the states.

I think you missed my point entirely. No one cares what board a surfer is using, no one cares what board or wheels a skateboarder is using. Does the judge take any of that into consideration? N-O. And neither do the judges in drifting. The car goes sideways? Point. The car goes sideways but has a cool engine? Same point.

Tbh you'll probably find a lot of serious drifters agree with what you are saying and don't actually give a damn about all the bloated 'shiny' bits, hence why they arn't afraid to thrash the hell out of the cars sideways. Those bits are purely to make the sport more exciting for the punters, and nobody can argue that it doesn't achieve that.
Almost all drifters do the sport because the activity of driving is FUN as well as the skill and satisfaction of driving a car sideways at 100mph plus. The same can't be said for 50% of normal grip drivers whos goal of shaving a second off their time often makes them forget they do it because they love it (not that I don't appreciate what they do as I also love grip racing, I'd just rather do it with a smile). The cameradary at drift events is a hundred times better than at your average race meet where often people wont help other drivers because 'all that matters is winning and thats another one I don't have to beat!'.
As for why the 4 rotor is in that car its probably already paid for itself in promotion - a 4 rotor engine has to be the most amazing engine out there
but its also there for reasons such as reliability. A high level drifting car needs an engine that is putting out around 500bhp plus to be competitive. In most events the drivers are pulling every last ounce of performance from the engine. Having a non-turbo that still puts out 500bhp will not only have instant response thats often missing from the big tubbed boingers but also be more reliable and stand up to the abuse.Excuse the waffle, I just think if peole saw more full speed big racetrack drift events they would understand it more. The average track day grip racers can 'bluff' their skills to some extent because they can still do 150mph with very little skills whereas the drift equivelent is 2nd gear around a small track. It takes a lot of dedication (and dented cars!) to get proficient at drifting and a rolling burnout it certainly is not!
Second car goes sideways at 120mph 100m earlier than the last car, has enough power, grip , and handling to take the drift deeper, bring itself back into the corner and hit a late apex taking a better line but staying within inches of the car in front ? More points.
Fortunately (IMO) drifting relies more on the skill of the drivers and time and time again this is proved in competitions, but all else being equal drifting benefits from better cars the same as any other motorsport. Despite what many of the un-initiated seem to think a car thats going sideways is not out of control and the inputs from the driver and the amount of grip (more the better, same as any other motorsport) makes a huge difference on the trajectory of the car.

saying that drift cars shouldn't look nice is the same argument that all motorsports cars should not look nice. i dont get it. you just seem to be grumpy that drifters can crash their cars repeatedly and still have a nicer car than you lol.
i think you should rename yourself from grimple to grumpy1...
