Thumbs down Los Angeles Politician Warren Furutani Wants to Raise Gas Tax!!!

In the midst of sky high gas prices, this politician, Warren Furatani, has the audacity to suggest increasing the tax of gasoline by 25-30˘ per gallon. Unbelievable!!!

Los Angeles politician Warren Furutani’s AB 1326 is a shakedown at the pump

Los Angeles politician Assemblyman Warren Furutani has introduced a bill to impose a $1 billion oil severance tax that analysts estimate will kill 10,000 jobs, cause further devastation to the transportation and construction industries and harm everyone who drives. AB 1326 will raise the price of gas by approximately 25-30˘ per gallon and will raise the price of diesel slightly more.

California’s current 66˘ per gallon gas taxes are already the highest in the nation. With gas prices at record highs we do not need even higher gas prices.
The amount of tax you pay per gallon will go up if gas prices continue to rise because the tax is a percentage imposed directly on the price of crude.
Gas taxes are regressive taxes that harm those who can least afford them the most.
Prices on things you buy every day will go up because of higher transportation costs.
Our oil fields produce a lower grade of crude that is more expensive to refine. The oil severance tax could force the shutdown of California oil wells and increase our dependency on imported oil.
But you can take action to help stop the shakedown at the pump!

SIGN the petition to the California Legislature and sign up for updates as AB 1326 moves through the process or until we put it to a halt.
CONTACT Warren Furutani’s office and demand he withdraw AB 1326 for the reasons stated here.
WRITE a letter to the editor to your local newspaper opposing AB 1326
TESTIFY at the upcoming hearings on the bill. If you sign up for updates you will be notified when this bill is heard in Capitol policy committees.
High gas prices are already hurting working people at the pump and putting jobs in jeopardy. AB 1326 is a bad idea at the worst possible time.

Same thing they've done with all the OTHER tax money... take it from you and spend it on **** you wouldn't spend it on yourself.

Including more vehicle enforcement, most likely, as they make money on that.

You know what we need right now with everybody out of work? Politicians reaching further into our wallets. At least we can thank them for doing it in the state with the slowest decrease of unemployment in the nation. Seriously feds, now is not the time.

I'm so sick and tired of this BS where their solution is to tax the **** out of the people during the biggest recession since 1929. Is that really the answer? Lets just TRY fiscal responsibility out for a year.

Welcome to Taxifornia where we continually vote these people in. This is political suicide, I mean hell they tried to tax sodas and **** before it got shot down. In all reality this shouldn't come to fruition, but who knows with CA. I want to move badly but I cannot.

You're still paying the federal tax.

Obama's proposing taxing cars on a per-mile-driven basis now. By mounting tracking hardware in every car.

Wonder who get's the contract to make that hardware? Instant market of 300 million customers, who MUST buy the product at whatever price is given.

That's just the thing I'd expect from Obozo. He is going down faster than Bush was and this is looking like the cherry on top. I'm voting for whoever runs against the guy, for the crazy "progressive" **** like this.

Plenty of sources out there; maybe you should do some research on your own before you try calling 'bullshit' on someone's post?

http://www.mlive.com/auto/index.ssf/...tax_obama.html

The Obama administration disowned the idea Thursday after a draft bill leaked online that reportedly had been shared by officials in the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Office of Management and Budget
The White House had to backpedal Thursday after a draft of the DOT (part of the administration) bill was leaked to the public.

http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-actio...rs-by-the-mile

Details about the contents of the 500-page 'draft bill.'

News of the draft follows a March Congressional Budget Office report that supported the idea of taxing drivers based on miles driven.

Among other things, CBO suggested that a vehicle miles traveled (VMT) tax could be tracked by installing electronic equipment on each car to determine how many miles were driven; payment could take place electronically at filling stations.

The CBO report was requested by Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), who has proposed taxing cars by the mile as a way to increase federal highway revenues.
Denying that an unpopular idea is part of the Administration's position, after information has leaked in which that idea is part of a draft of formal legislation created by an official branch of the Administration, is a lot like a kid denying he was going to swipe a cookie, when you caught him with his hand in the cookie jar.

At the time I'd written my post, I'd read about the leak, but not the subsequent denial.

At the time you wrote your post, you'd clearly read neither - - as you chose not to site any sources for your position while accusing me of not having any for mine.

'Theatrical bullshit," indeed... but not by me.

Yeah the tax per mile debate was on the political shows this afternoon. It's about as likely to pass as Paul Ryan abolishing Medicare. Add a gps infringes on personal privacy so the big brother conspirators wake up too.

Increasing gas taxes is an uphill battle but much easier and cheaper to do, and doesn't require adding any more headcount to administer it since fed gas taxes are already in place. Then some goon said it's not fair because hybrids use less gas....... Although I don't want to pay more taxes, the $ goes towards repairing federal highways and I hate potholes too.

So what to do? Sit in front of a computer and complain about high taxes and potholes. And expect stamp prices to go up.
