just want to know how many people out there would trust a civilian w/o a current shop to rebuild there motor? ofcourse there would be further details discussed such as price for their labor as well as guarantee on the engine, but would it be something anyone would be interested in if his labor rates were 50% that of a normal shops rebuild rates?

You're being pretty vague about this, and leaving out the two most important questions:


1.) Has he got any experience?
I wouldn't pay someone to use my motor as a 'learning experience,' even if they gave me a discount.


2.) Will he do a good job on your motor for the price you're paying him?
I've heard of people getting a great deal from a guy with a "good" reputation, but then that guy took forever AND did crappy work. It was such a low-paying job for him that he didn't care about doing it right. (NOTE: I don't think the guy is on these forums, don't want to imply anything about anyone here)

you know how it is right before sevenstock every year... everyone wants everything ready for ss, but then everyone else wants everything done right after because they get all jazzed up seeing all the nice cars.

it's about trust, if you know the person and trust their work then i don't see a problem with it, it also comes down to experience, rotary engines are not anything like piston engines so if he has no experience then that would be a big red flag to me unless you feel like being a guinea pig.

nah, my shop is filthier than my garage. the spiders own the place i just rent it from them just as long as they don't get in my way while i'm working they won't get the "boot".

i need to hire some big boobed girl to clean up after my messes.

I agree with what Karack says, if you trust the person and they are willing to fix their mistakes then go for it...

 

when i was in my learning mode, some of my friends would have me do their engines for a case of maountain dew and dinner, or sometimes a few bucks. same thing with when i was learning porting--port job for gas money and a case of dew . i'd have them come over to help me clean parts and everything, then assemble the engines right in front of them.

 

pretty much the same way i started but instead of dew i asked them for their spare engine parts.

i was around for a bit, but it took 50 mg of vicodin to get me to walk. i was easily recognisable with my pimp cane, though

I have been building motors now for about 5-6 years, with no problems, some of the badest and cleanest street ports and bridge ports ever done. No complaints from any of my customers and satisfaction guarenteed. I work out of my garage due to funds and the cost of opening up a shop but i got every tool you need to get the job done.

But sometimes you have to be iffy on who does your work on rebuilds cuz some guys are better off just driving them instead of working on them
