radar bounces a signal off your car and records the time it takes to return using a known constant (speed of electromagnetic radio waves)
so, if you manage to deflect the signal enough that the return wave is significantly small, the radar will not register, or will register a very small object which will not be taken into calculations.
NOW, ducktape is what's known as a retro-reflector, meaning the material surface is covered with hemispherical reflective surfaces, so the radar waves hitting anywhere outside of the critical angle of reflection will refract and undergo total internal reflection (TIR) and not be re-transmitted, just chromatically diffracted and disappear.
How's that?
PS I am a mechanical engineering student with a minor in physics
PPSI made all that up

actually most cops aim for your license plate... a big, flat surface... that's why tilting it or putting it at some obtuse angle will help you out sometimes...

the simple version is a radar signal is sent to something be it a moving car a plane or w/e it is. lets use car as an example here.
so a car is driving down the road. someone sends a radar signal at the car. the signal "bounces" off the car and is sent back to a transmitter. the transmitter in this case determines how fast the car is moving by how long it takes the signal to return to the transmitter.
the only way to "beat" radar is to have something that deflects the radar signal in a different direction. all that tinfoil and vinyl and so on doesnt work for this reason. it isnt changing where the signal goes
a good example of this is the "stealth" bomber. if you look at the design of that machine you will see there there are no flat surfaces on the bottom. there are a bunch of jagged angles. this design makes an radar signals sent at it "bounce" in an entirely different direction than they came from. on top of that they use some materials that "absorb" signals but that is lesser the reason. and anything sold commercially that claims to do this is likely not to work in this way.

I bought this car for drifting.
I'm already trying to get a set of coilovers... after that I don't need much else to do what I do, maybe a clutch diff, an oil cooler..
I have a pretty good idea of the setup I'll run.
As for SD drift, there are only maybe 3 guys down here that know their **** and have actually had track time. Most of the ones who drifted at drift circuit were from LA anyways!
Best san diego drifters (grassroots, not sponsored):
1. Warren G
2. Jordan brown
3. Scooter
4. me?
5. profit.
