kinda pissed, gotta rebuild again!!

So I have about 6-7k miles on a freshly rebuilt motor, built by lucky 7, tuned by nelson. Somewhere between bp and pasadena on the freeway going about 95 100, it was late not much traffic, I cracked two brand new apex seals, in turn ruining both my rotor housing..... now why would this happen. Cause if its tuning, I'm damn sure not gonna give him some more cash to not tune my motor right. Almost ever part in the motor is brand new, spent a lot!! On it so it would be reliable.

Now I know **** happens, but if someone is to blame I would like to know who so I will not get work done there anymore, as after spending what I did, I should not have to spend another couple grand to do it all over again. Once the motor is back together, I'm gonna go to nelson and have him see what happen with the computer, as I think mine records data and saves it. Come to think of it, I don't see why he needs the car, all he should need is the computer, Im gonna find out as if I can find out sooner than planned to see exactly what happened in my motor. This sucks so bad, had I bought a new car and 6k miles later the motor bust I would get it replaced for free, and yes I spent that much!!! Waiting sucks!!!

Dude that sucks man. Hope you figure it out. Does it look like any hoses or anything blew off causing a massive lean spike?

What else did you have replace besides the motor, Fuel pump, injectors, wiring?

Rebuild alone,
Atkins cryo trated 2'' apex seals(broke)
Apez seal springs
Oil control rings and ring springs
Atkins solid corner springs
Corner seal springs
Side seals and springs
Rotor bearing
Main bearing
Waterpump
Thermostat
Oil pedestal o rings
Omp
Omp lines

Then I could go into everything done outside the rebuild, but it would take forever as when its all said and done I have an invoice about 2 1/2 pages long that details everything from the rebuild to the swap

My guess is it wasn't the rebuild that failed, I'm thinking maybe an injector plugged or fuel pump had a hiccup are you running a wideband?

doubt it was the injector plugs, had alot of help at track, thanks Rob!!!. Fuel pump is possible, wont be able to tell until we go and check the computer and see what happened. As I think it saves the data of what happened, so we should be able to see what happened.

Yeah I dont think it was the rebuild that failed either, and i kinda feel it wasnt the tune that failed either, as i have pushed it hard before, really hard and nothing happened and if it was the tune, i doubt it would have made out the shop, yet alone passed my fun runs. This might just be one of those times were **** happened, and i gotta clean it up. I'll post an update if it turns out to be something different.

you gotta pay to play, that's something to think about whenever building a high horsepower car.

i would have to guess it was the fuel pump, especially if the pump is running on the stock wiring of the car still or not grounded properly, which seems to be common for builders to ignore these days while building a car for big power. even in stock cars, the pump wiring can be an issue that can cause engine failures to happen, keep in mind your car isn't new anymore.

there's plenty of things that can go wrong in a split second that are no one's fault but the car's alone that are easy to overlook. i prefer to simplify the car first before doing much else to improve reliability. when you pop my hood there's just an engine with a simple wiring harness for the microtech and a water injection pump, it's been reliable for the past 5 years without doing much of anything to it aside from swapping the turbo(i didn't even have to touch the maps because the turbos had similar efficiency at 14psi except the new one can push twice the psi efficiently).. knock on wood.

Maybe, but lucky 7 did do a nice job wiring up my denso fuel pump. They even gave it its own power supply, so stock wiring is out of the question. But your right, that's y I wanna wait to see what happen.

I might of missed it, but are you running a wideband, and were you in boost when you felt it go?

I know of a nice reliable, decent power motor that will fit right in that engine bay.

Sorry about your engine. I never had one puke on me. The coolant seals always ended up going on my cars.

Naw, wasn't in boost when it happened, at least I don't think so going about 95 -100 so I was going, but not maahing it, and to be honest I didn't feel anything weird, when I got off the freeway, the idle sounded funny and power was laggy in low rpms. Thankfully the motor isn't toast, I just got replace a few parts, thx though.

+1 and one million. there no way the tuner is going to know how to set up your 100% on the dyno one time, for all your situations.

that said...i am also guilt of running around without a wideband, which is something i have wanted to get. :p

my bf had one on his car before he went LS, and i have to say seeing the air/fuel ratio made me feel alot safer being crazy in his car. this will also make you more knowledgeable on the tune, this way you can see what you would like to change and let the tuner know exactly what you need for how you drive.

seeing you thread makes me want to order one today lmao.

Man that's horrible...

Good luck, hearing things like this makes me paranoid and I'm not even making any power increase endeavors. Keep us posted.

Sorry about the blowup. Makes for a totally crappy day no mater what's under the hood.

For what it's worth I personally I found I never had as much fun when my car was a rotary simply because I didn't trust it and didn't understand it. There's a lot to be said for the darkside.
