I'm seeing a state referee!
Hey guy so here's my problem. So im cruising home from vallejo back to san francisco going 60 on the freeway on a 65 limit. a cop pull me over and im thinking what am i doing wrong. so when i ask him what i did wrong he tell me that he pull me over cuz my car look like it made for street racing and he ask me to pop my hood. After poping my hood he see all my shiny mod and said " there you go" like he just hit the lotto. i ask him what the problem and what mod was he talkin bout. he tell me your car has turbo. i told him this car is stock twin turbo. he say well you need to see the state referee bout that. my question now is will my car pass the state ref test with a bone stock motor w/ small streetport. i had to replace my blitz intercooler, intake,dp,mp,pfc back to stock. any comment would help. thx in advance

You should be ok if you still have the airpump. I thought you could go to the local auto parts store to test emissions? Give them a call for a pre-test. Good luck.
they need better probable cause to pull you over.. ive been thru 2 ref tickets, **** sucks.. first time because my car was at the end of the line in a group of other friends when we where leaving a friends house.. Asking them why they pulled you over and saying thats not enough, typically they are dicks regardless and all you can do is get upset. I hate it. I just paid both of them, but my fines where less than 2k for both of em, i dont remember that was back in 05-06.

CA has said that having a modified looking car is probable cause enough. Sounds retarded doesn't it? Cuz if you say you don't want to pop your hood or anything they are allowed to tow your car until they obtain a warrant to do so and guess who pays the storage fee? Bingo! -You.
If you go to the state ref and everything checks out, keep those papers with you. If you get pulled over show the officer the paperwork. If he doesn't go for it and sends you to the ref again and you go back to the ref and they pretty much say..well nothing's changed, you're fine..then you could file harassment charges against the law enforcement department.
To do this you'd have to prove you weren't doing anything wrong in every case they pulled you over. And that your car has been signed off. Gotta play the role of a victim.

damn, $2,XXX to pay off the ticket. My ref ticket was about $500. When I went to the ref he told me I had to take off the boost gauge, turbo timer off and some other crap that has nothing to do with emissions. Also for some reason my tailpipe emissions didn't pass.
I smogged the car a month before I got the ticket.

you need to get an attorney. first of all if its stock or as far as he can prove. he's not going to get to tear it apart and find the port job and if he did he wouldn't know it if he did find the port job. So really if its stock then he has nothing to charge you with. seond of all he had no legal right to make you pop your hood. what does a car for street racing look like? how is it any different than a car that you take to the track on the weekends? if you go by looks then every ferrari porsche corvette viper is for "street racing". the only reason they dont get harrased is becuase the cops look at them and say....." oh they have money and can afford an attorney that can make me look like a dumb *** I better leave him alone. really you should fight this.

Doesn't work in California...Look up "drag net" and the laws. Pretty much says it's legal for cops to harass car tuners like us.
smog
the mod ticket is 250.00 i got one i just had it signed off by nother officer because the officer who wrote it was wrong . intercooler and it's piping are a item of my consequence according to page 75 in the ca. smog book . just go to the jubge explain that the officer has no idea wth he is talkin about .

California law is one thing but this a violation of the fourth ammendment of the constitution which makes it federal. If I say your car looks like a car that a drug dealer owns it doesnt mean you can search it for drugs. I know he already searched your car and you probably didnt want to but he didnt find anything so really the ticket is kind of pointless. thats the equivelent of saying he searched your car and found plant material and was not able to identify it so they arrested you for possesion of an illegal substance. just becuase the motors has polished parts doesnt make them aftermarket. If thats true than buffing and waxing your car makes it modified.

if you dont stand up for your rights and know them. they will be taken from you. cops arent going to inform you of your rights unless you are under arrest since they are required to read you your miranda rights by law. or charges could easily be dismissed. I think its funny how states and groups try to make laws that are unconstitutional and then wonder why they get beat in court. I have a concealed carry permit and I'm a college student I lock my weapon in my car when i go to class and technically that is against the campus rules and if they found out I could be arrested, but...... The state says that a parking lot of a public university is an acceptable area to store a weapon in a locked unaccompanied vehicle. so really they would have a arrested me for a law that Im well within its boundaries, then i would file a lawsuit against the university. I could always use some new firearms to carry. lol

the ticket was issued in in California I agree but as much as you may want to believe that what California says is final, the federal government has the last word not Califronia. I had a federal case this year against a california resident. The state of California said that I couldnt do anything now I have a $100,000 plus judgement.
Also this is the 3rd gen section not west.
lets just stick to the real issue here instead of arguing. This guys has an unfair ticket and we may not be able to help him but we should try to help our fellow forum members. Either way man consult an attorney and see what he or she thinks.
