Is it illegal...

to drive on prescription drugs?

I spent the last week in the hospital and am now on Soma (muscle relaxant) and Vicodin (pain killer). Im sure it isn’t safe to drive on them but is it illegal?

If you are driving impaired, you are driving impaired. Regardless of if you have a prescription for the drugs or not.

As a rule of thumb, if the bottle the prescription drugs came in, says not to operate heavy machinery then chances are it will make you too impaired to drive.

Not worth the risk if you don't feel 100%. Most drugs will be up to the interpretation of the officer that pulls you over. If they do pull you over, and they think you are impaired, you are screwed. Don't do it unless you feel 100%.

It is illegal to drive impaired period.
It's the same as have a medical prescription for mariajuna then driving.
Prescription drugs such as Vicodin or Soma are narcotics.
The key word is "Impaired". Meaning if you cannot pass a basic test as they would conduct on a DUI suspect then you would be considered impaired.

Are you guys serious? "Drive if you feel like you can?" "Everything is legal until you get caught?" That's the WORST advice ever. If something you take makes your driving suffer, you shouldn't drive, PERIOD. It doesn't matter if it's a couple of beers or a combination of painkillers and muscle relaxants. If you were plastered, people that gave a crap about you would tell you to keep off the road... not just for you, but for other drivers as well. The same good logic should apply. It doesn't matter if it's legal or not... if it puts you or other people in unnecessary danger, don't do it.

Welcome to the West Section Poe! Waysho asked for our honest opinion and we provided her with the best possible suggestions. All and all, it is up to her to make the correct choice.

Fair enough, and thanks. I knew you guys weren't completely crazy... though I've already been warned to avoid "the belligerents..." Don't remember where, though. Must've come to me in a dream or something.

Who is this POE guy any way. I dont think he "gets" us yet. The westsection is better than all the other sections. We have the most fun.

And dont drive if the pills affect you. If you are taking one vicodin every four to six hours (depending on your weight)that shouldnt be enough to affect your driving. If you feel messed up when you take these drugs then you probobly are.

I have not driven for 2 weeks now, and dont plan on driving. My question was if it is legal or not. Jeez.

PS. To all the newbs... dont take anything said in the West section seriously. Taking a belligerent's advice can cause severe harm or get you arrested.

Yeah, I don't pretend to "get" the West section, but I'm glad I found it.

I had a Nissan for a while and that scene is unfortunately loaded with idiots. I also teach high school, so I automatically go into WTF mode when I can't tell if people are messing around or just being morons.

With all due respect.
