hey AA. I just came back from turnbull canyon today. It was the first time up there in awhile. Do you want to run it after work? we could get some footy.I know its your homecourt. I went today with a camera strapped on, and it was gay cuz everyone a slow car came out and ruined the footy. I went up and down 6 times to get familiar with the course. A rsx type S with exhaust did show up , and reved at me, so I chased him up hill, but he was a noobie. WE need some good footy...

Hey, you are fast, Im not going to lie.Your car is well setup, and you can handle your car. I never tried auto x before and want to try it. I have been in the canyons for 3 years now. I used to use my fc all the time grip and drift until my engine blew, I started using the 90 hp 4 speed auto matrix.First I thought it was a joke. Slowly enough, I learned a few things here and there and somehow I was able to keep up with evos and stis. Pretty soon I beated some cars like mustang gt and 350z on mountains.**** was funny as hell. Those guys didnt know how to drive I guess?Probably just credit card racers. but the only cars I have lost to was my friends fd and my friends s13 in the canyon. Not bad for a 90 hp daily commuter. Street or track, we are both racers, and you cant just say "hey you suck at driving", if you dont even know somebody. Who knows maybe auto x is more difficult to drive than mountains, or maybe mountains is more difficult given its unpredictable road conditions and risks. Auto x has controlled enviroment and layout which insures safety. Some people just find more adrenaline and rush in the mountains. Its just my oppinion.

I'm not saying this to be a dick but you guys should seriously consider a BMW car control clinic or some kind of High Performance Driving Education event from BMW CCA. If you are able and willing to learn, it will help keep you out of trouble and make your canyon runs more enjoyable and safer for you and everyone around you.

I recommend BMW b/c they actually try to teach you something - unlike other organizations.

i witnessed my friend skid off the side of the infamous left turn on Turnbull Canyon. he was saved by a small bush before the huge plummet that would have lead to his obvious death.

keep doing it because less cars = less pollution. simple as that. more clean air for my 12 mpg whip.

Ugh.. I just realized how much this thread reminds me of Initial D when Tak's sidekick decides to race someone in his minivan and wrecks it.

It seems nobody will be able to write a specific reply that will convince you guys how dangerous and pointless canyon racing is. Although it would be fun to talk S$%t about what you are doing I will avoid and and just hope that you guys come to your senses before you hurt someone else, or hurt yourself. Also keep in mind that by glorifying this type of driving you just convince more non experienced drivers to be on the canyons with you endangering their lives and yours as well as the other people using those road for the purpose of getting home to their families or going to work.

Of the guys in this thread that are still canyon racing who and how many of you have actually spent 3-4 days at the track with race tires etc...?

It's all personal preference in the end. I know plenty of hardcore track nuts that spend hours on circuits, and go up to the canyons to drive fast as well.

A car can take a life at 20 mph or at 90 mph.

Even race drivers sometimes like the thrill of fast canyon driving. (Reminds me of 2-3 years ago when SCCA Cup cars, drift cars, and trailered race cars used to get trailered to GMR and Mount Wilson to do hillclimbs and downhill runs.

I think it's easier for a 50 year old Prius owner to tell us that mountain racing is bad than a fellow car enthusiast. Street racing is no doubt completely irresponsible. But for someone with a fast car, the mountains is probably the only place they can experience thrills like that.

I race on mountain roads. I have no excuse. I do it because it's fun as hell.
