If I moved to San Diego
I've got a thread about this in the lounge.
Can some of you Cal peeps tell me a little about the city? I might be moving there, and one of the first things I do after I settle myself in is to buy an other FB. I love the car, love the city, and I might need some of you guys to get me aclimated.

Damn....I miss San Diego. I wish it didn't cost an arm and a leg to live out there....easy when the military pays for it, but buying $600k starter homes is crazy.
Stay north of I-8 when you pick a place to live....my personal favorite places to live would be in North county. RB, Poway, Scripps, etc.. Point Loma is about the only place I would live south of I-8....or Coronado if you could afford it. I lived in Tierrasanta which was an ok area I thought...easy access to both I-15 and I-8. Right near the Murph (always be the Murph to me).

Rent could be the same if you don't mind approaching your living situation as a roommate.
Just check out signonsandiego.com in the classifieds and do some searching when you come to visit. Sometimes that concept doesnt sound appealing but moving here and knowing no one, having roomies with friends doesn't hurt. Your kinda friend shopping while looking for a place at the same time.

Let's say I make about $28 bucks/hour, full time. My bills are very low, basically a small car and student loan payment. The only bills I would take with me amount to about $400/month.
Think I could expect a reasonable lifestyle on ~$50-$60k a year, maybe more with overtime? Or is that going to put me on a paycheck to paycheck life? I have a feeling I'm underestimating just how much it really costs to live there.

Since you're on an FB budget like I am, you should do just fine Purchasing a house on your own and modifying an FD, now that's a different story....
Now if you' re able to deal with traffic, high gasoline prices, high rent rates, year round good climate, 60 miles of beaches, be up in the mountains or out in the desert or be downtown all in the same day, sexy girls and be within an hours drive to Sevenstock then San Diego might just be the place for you. Construction is never ending so that's also good job security.

If you are satisfied to rent an apt. then you could manage on $60k/yr. It would be better w/ a roomate....but when I left, you could expect a 1bdr apt to rent for around $1100/mo in a decent area. Definately not in the nicest area of town, but also, not in the ghettos of La Mesa or National City. Not sure if that rate has changed much since 1998 or not....alot can change in 8 years....so who knows.
But you will not be able to buy a home and survive on that income. But the trade off is the weather....best weather in the US hands down. Close to tons of major events like was mentioned above...beaches, mountains, vegas, etc...all fairly close by. The traffic in San Diego is some of the easist traffic to be in for a major metro area. Compared to DC, LA, Dallas, etc....San Diego is great. Not sure about Cincy...never been there. Gas is high, but San Diego has a great public transit system in place...so getting around isn't all that bad.

I was thinking about moving to San Diego, it's the place to be, but there's something about Frisco that I can't leave behind. Sure traffic sucks, prices sucks ($1400/month rent for a studio!) and prices are high, but I'm attached. Diego, Santa Monica, or O.C would be my only other choices.

i think san diego is okay but ever city has it's ups and downs. it can get really expensive to live here. gas gets crazy and the houses here really will cost you an arm and a leg. but as stated there are alot of fb here both on the road and in the junkyards. it kinda sucks for me because there are not alot of puerto ricans here and everyone thinks i'm mexican or something. but i'd say go for it. you can't beat the summers here. LA isn't far and mexico is like 30 min or less away.
hey i used to live in la mesa. it wasn't that bad. no worse that humboldt park, chicago.
